My toddler has VATERS Association, it is an acronym for multiple physical defects. She has vertebrae and rib anomalies, heart defects/ASD, multicystic kidney/one good kidney, tethered spinal cord, RAD which is like asthma and a feeding tube. She sees seven specialists in addition to her pediatrition. She has an appt this Tues with her orthopedist. Children with VACTER are more likely to get scoliosis and on occassion get it severely. Also, with her rib deformites not protecting her organs like they should, she could be a candidate for titanium rib implants which is a very invasive surgery and one in which they would have to adjust about every six months as she grows, to my understanding. I try to be positive but it is extremely hard when you keep hearing horrific news. My last birthday they found more holes in her heart...a couple the size of bullets and she is about 34inch and 25lbs. She will be having open heart or Amplatzer device next summer. Around Mother's Day she had surgery on her spine...tethered is like a stretched rubber band...eventually leads to nerve damage...not being able to walk and loss of bowel and bladder control...luckily her surgery was a success. I am extremely worried about what news we will recieve after they get done with testing on Tuesday. If any of you would, please pray/send positive thoughts her way. Thank You.

Consider it done and to continue, Serene. My best to you and all your family. :rose:

(btw, I've meant to say how much your name and countenance match so wonderfully... indeed you look serene. I hope it it will always be so.)

I'll give her everything I've got and some for you as well. :rose:

I saw a TV show about a little boy with severe scoliosis (102 degree curvature). He had the titanium rib surgery and he now walks almost upright. He has a small operation every 6 months to lengthen the implants as he grows.

My thoughts are with you and your little one :rose:

Serene...

You absolutely have all of my thoughts and prayers. I will definitely keep my fingers (and toes if necessary) crossed for tomorrow's diagnosis....

Try to get some sleep,

I don't get to Lit too often.........

..... so I didn't see this till just now. Sending warm thoughts and prayers for all concerned.

:rose:

I've often said that children who have to go through such things are given extra special parents. You seem to fit in with my theory. I know we don't know each other, but I know quite a bit about physical and other disabilities due to my job, so if you ever need a sounding board or have a question, my PM box is always open.

And even though I don't pray often, I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.

Prayers and thoughts going out to you now and for a long time to come. Hopefully the collective will of everyone wishing for the best around here will make a difference! :rose:

You and your daughter have my hopes and all my best wishes.

Positive thoughts, prayers and hearted best wished to you, your daughter and those dear ( with supportive hugs to ) :rose:
