I made a stupid mistake and started a thread instead of posting to one. Use this for anything you wish. The Practice Thread

I'm considering converting it to an "Everything you Wish to Know About Authoring" thread. I have so many small questions, but I keep putting off posting them because of the amount of space they would take up as seperate thoughts.

Perhaps more apt for the "Editor's Forum?"

Ha...I've now infected this discarded thread like a...well, like a maggot in a corpse. I'm going to eat up all the dead flesh that i can, grow wings and then be swatted into an icky mess...and they said I had no ambition. Ha.

Ew.

I know that there is thread out there some where for that which I am about to write but since I've hijacked this thread I'm going to say it here in the hopes that no one will really notice...

The second chapter of my story (Witches Brew) is now sitting at No.1 on the top list for Mind Control. I don't think this is really fair at all and it makes me really nervous. I've read most of the other stories near the top of the list and they are all almost categorically better than my modest effort. How did this happen? Is there no justice in the (Lit) world?

I've considered bombing my own story just to bring it down a little, but I can't bring myself to do it. And it's not that I don't like having it up there, I just don't think it's justified.

I know it will probably come down eventually; it has only 49 votes or so and I'm sure once it gets a little more visibility it will drop down accordingly but still...it just doesn't seem right to me.

I guess even the trolls haven't read it yet. Ha.

Wow...that didn't take very long.

If anyone knows...
What score would you have to get to go from a 4.86 to a 4.76 with one vote?

How many votes did you have when it was at 4.86, and how many now, at 4.76?

50 @ 4.86 and 51 @ 4.76

I didn't think anyone ever read this thread:D

You can ask your writing questions in here.. or you can PM me :) I'm a decent editor, even if I do have writers block, I can still answer some questions.. and Cantdog is excellent with writing questions, definately ones pertaining to english.

Sorry, sweets, it was a 1.

Fortunately, you have enough votes that it didn't cause your score to plummet to the black depths....

Thank you. But I sorta asked for it. Actualy I'm kinda proud. I think its my first 1. Well, the first one I've noticed anyway. Definately fewer than I probably deserve.

Sweets...HeeHee...I've never been called that before. That just makes my heart palpitate like a doggy in long grass.;)

That doesn't compute. A vote of 1 would have given you an average of 4.78.

It's not the first time I've experienced computing technical difficulties.

I got the 4.76 from my submissions screen...It seems the top list hadn't caught up because it was still at 4.86. I don't know if that makes a difference but it might.

The numbers only work if there was one or more of the original fifty removed and replaced by two or more low votes.

51*4.76 = 242.76
50*4.86 = 243.

It's not possible to receive a vote of negative 0.24 so an existig vote had to disappear.

How would votes get removed?

Laurel does sweeps every so often, and removes double votes, etc.

(thanks for the feedback, by the way)
