Posting Stories Under New Account

So, I've gone back and forth on here, over the years, and have opened and closed multiple accounts, with various stories posted under them. I would like to take some of them and post them all for what I'm sure will be the last time under this account, but I'm worried that a reader might read one, recognize it, and think I'm plagiarizing myself. I'm thinking about prefacing each story with this message (below), but I'd like to hear what the experts think.

Thanks!

Note:

I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this wonderful website and previously published this story under a different account. I can assure you that this well and truly is my own work, and if you're one of the few who read it previously, I hope you enjoy it again!

Thanks!

You'll need to convince Laurel that you're the same person for all accounts.

If you can do that (eg: same back-up email address) she might be able to fiddle about with the database and gather all your stories in the same place, and keep all the scores and comments.

Worth sending her a PM.

Oh really? That sounds like a good idea. Thank you!

I would follow EB’s suggestion and contact Laurel to see if it’s possible to transfer the stories to another username. If that isn’t possible and you delete that account and submit them again under the new name I would advise and agree you should preface the story saying you had originally submitted the story using another username.

I originally submitted Turn Back Time as a short story that took up less than one complete Lit page. I wrote a much longer version, gave it a new title, and had the original version deleted. But I didn’t preface it with an expiation explaining what I’d done. I received a pm from someone asking if it was a longer version of a story already submitted as they were sure they’d read it before. If not it seemed very similar to a story they’d already read not very long ago. They didn’t actually say but the implication was had I stolen someone else’s story.

I have another story which I’m thinking of either writing a sequel or writing a more detailed version of the original. If I do the latter I will certainly, from my previous experience, preface it with an explanation. There is always the possibility someone will remember the original, not contact me, and give it a one star because they think I’ve plagiarised someone else’s story.

I'd be curious to know if the OP was successful.

If it is doable I might want to do so as well.

Yeah but is it possible or Laurel to fiddle with the database and keep the votes, comments and others. Just change it all under a different account?

I had the same problem. I had a couple of very old accounts with some stories I wanted to put in a new and final account. I backed up all the stories I wanted to keep, and then sent a message from each account to the admins to have those accounts deactivated which deletes everything. This way, when I republished those stories under my new name, nobody can find those stories.

You could just have just the stories deleted from those old accounts if you want to keep the accounts, which I once did. But then I found out those stories are somehow still around if there's a link to them. I don't know why it's there like that, but it happens. It could also be found if someone favorited those stories. But when you have the whole account deactivated, then those stories disappear for good.

You can try it the other ways here, but I found this way more effective.

....

Should be able to, I reckon, given that it's a database thing, not starting from scratch. As I say, it's worth a PM.
