hopefully you lot can help me? I am thinking of having a go of writing short romance stories after when I have finished my 1st draft of a fantasy novel. Will post my blog later. How do you go about writing one and also how short is a short romance story?

The minimum requirement for posting on Lit is 750 words.

Thanks

Been wondering 750 I can manage until I get the hand of writng romance stories. Which hopefully one day I will write a novel. The other question is how do you start writing a short romance story?

Its much like writing any other story, but with more romance. What romance maybe is up to you. There is no set length to a short story. As Glynnda said, Lit stories must be at least 750 words.

Go on over to the Story board and read a lot of the ones in the Romance category. The first thing you will learn is that Romance is a very broad category, indeed, almost a dumping place for tales we can't figure out where to put. Read a lot of them, then start reacting to what you've read.

Ask youself:
1. How would I behave in that situation?
2. That's not a bad story but how about if the plot went this way?
3. What a pile of crap! What the author really should have written is this!

That ought to give you a beginning.

I'd direct you to my romances that were posted here, but I sold them all to a publisher.

My romances ranged around the 15,000 word mark. That's short by my standards. ;)

I'd introduce the main characters and the conflict fairly soon into the story. I'd concentrate on one character, telling the story from their point of view. The conflict would most often be an internal one, something about their past that keeps them from opening up.

I'd then go through events involving the two characters, and sharpening the conflict through these events.

Eventually the characters couldn't deny their attraction to each other, overcome their conflict and then there'd be a really hot love scent.

I'd finish by showing that they were going to be together forever.

Worked for me every time. ;)

hopefully you lot can help me[?]. I am thinking of having a go [of] at writing short romance stories after [when] I have finished my [1st] first draft of a fantasy novel.I Will post my blog later*. How do you go about writing one and also how short is a short romance story?

*Cut the whole penultimate sentence.

Thanks

for the advice. I am not doing to well on my fantasy novel as I feel a bit low. So I am going to take a little break from it and look into romance stories. They do sometimes cheer me up. Reading Chocolate by Joanne Harris. Now there`s a thought!!
