Finished a story, sent it off, and sighed.

A mix of a dollop of satisfaction, and a tinge of regret.

Tomorrow, I won't give the story a second thought (at least until it appears), but tonight, it lingers...

Anyone have a similar feeling after finishing?

I always just know I sent it off prematurely. The dialogue rattles in my head for a few hours. But I find, once it 'posts,' that it devolves into mere maintenance, you know, answering e-mails, replying to feedbacks, acknowledging PC's if they don't happen to be anonymous. And it passes into the background.

Unless I have an emotional stake in it, as an object, as I did with a couple of them, and still do with my posted poem.

will let ya all know soon when my first gets posted. Its very personal. But its important to release it.

Always, as Samandriel says, it's like a baby bird leaving it's nest and heading out into the big bad world, where the Trolls live in caves, and the Flamers hide behind rocks and try to fry your story to a cinder.

And yes, as Cantdog says, no matter how long you've worked on the piece you ALWAYS send it off too early. The flashes of insight usually begin some thirty seconds after you've pressed the 'send' key and continue every time you think about the story.

Last, (but by no means least) Fem  How are you sweets, haven't talked for ages. Please let us know when the story comes up. A swift kick on the ankle will do it.

Because for every troll and flamer, there are a hundred good readers out there who will love your stories. Okay, so many of them might not post to tell you so, but they are one of the reasons why we write. The other, and probably more important reason is that we all have a story to tell.

Smile, it's a good day, now you can call yourself a writer

Chris.

I have some feeling for the story between submission and it appearing on Literotica. During that time I keep thinking 'if only' and 'perhaps I could have'.

Once it is posted and drops off the new list it is on its own. I rarely revisit it unless I intend a sequel or variant with the same characters.

Completed stories that have said all I wanted to say, but never HOW I wanted to say it because I never reach anything like perfection, are no longer mine. Some of my older stories, pre-Literotica, I have difficulty remembering how and why I wrote them and they don't seem to be part of me at all, and almost could have been written by someone else.

They were. By a younger version of me that no longer exists.

Congrats to you Sophia...

Each story and poem I have written and submitted linger with me. Sometimes from the point where I wonder if I caught all the mistakes, did it make sense, what will the outcome be.

It's also a release for me. Just to get it out of my head because I can't concentrate otherwise.

Oh, she'll be back. We'll just have to find something to coax her out. Like a story idea.
