Possible YIM Phishing / Viruses

I got a couple of these. Not many though.

I did click on the links, but it appears Yahoo has been alerted. In each case I got a Yahoo page saying "This page not available" or some such.

Your new computer being a Mac is going to save you a lot of time and trouble as most viruses and trojans don't work on that machine...

I've been getting these messages, too, but I haven't clicked the link. Whew. Anyway, I found this information on another forum:



I'm not sure if that helps, but it looks like if you're getting the messages, but not clicking, you're okay -- it's the sender who has the virus. But, if your ID is sending them out, you should change your password ASAP.

That was the message I got. From two different people on here, although it wasn't from them. I the link, but got a yahoo page telling me I had no access to the pages.

The wife downloaded a free edition of AVG and set it running. In the middle of its check of the whole system, Norton (bless), popped up to say it had detected a Trojan virus and removed it. Woohooo!!

The only thing I can say, is that my Norton is an old version, 2002, and I haven't upgraded it for almost a year, but the old version still found this Trojan and destroyed it. It must be an old one that's been round for a while.

The AVG system finished its check and found nothing. Presumably because Norton had destroyed it.

Next step is Spybot. Hopefully that will mean I won't have to change anything. We'll see.

I too had noticed that a certain person was having that particular issue when they sent me such a message, twice, while I was asleep (I did not follow the link).

Sweep your PC anyway, just to be sure.

Yes. Believe me, it's better to be safe than sorry. Use at least one number in your password too. I keep all that info written down in a notebook though so I don't forget my passwords.

For best security use a combination of letters (upper and lower case), numbers, and punctuation symbols

The shit's happening again. Not with me, but I just got a message from someone on YIM with a similar link. Check your PCs.

And I've noticeed that my Microsoft Explorer e-mail has suddenly started getting reams, and reams of SPAM. I've never had this before on that system, but I'm getting something like 40-50 every couple of days.

Wanna' trade? I'm getting maybe 150 spams each day.
