Possible Dem Win Driving Markets Down?

I was about to claim this speculative query as original but then it was voiced on two different cable news outlets just this afternoon...

The theory and speculation is that the financial institutions world wide are looking ahead to a possible Dem controlled White House, Senate and House and that, that combination would increase capital gains taxes and the already high corporate tax rate and most likely continue to nationalize banks and lending institutions and the energy industry in an attempt to solve the energy crisis; in other words, move the American economy towards a kind of Euro style social democracy with high taxes on business and huge government spending on social programs.

Thus, all the knowledgeable monied interests are selling stocks and moving the money elsewhere until the election is over. This includes all the investment retirement plans which as a group, essentially follow suit in moving funds to safer investment vehicles.

On the other hand, a recent report said both the House and Senate races are tightening, again because of the financial crisis and people do not want a Dem controlled congress along with an Obama White House.

Then again, there is the 'Bradley' effect which, in essence, says that the racial factor is simmering and that people will say they will vote for Obama, but when they actually vote, will not vote for him on racial grounds. The Bradley effect was a California phenomena in which the polls gave Bradley, a black athlete, a 15 percent lead but he lost the election.

Also, just to muddy the waters, in October of 2004, Kerry led Bush, 51-40 percent in the polls in the first week of October.

On top of all that, just for the humor content, I watched, 'Recount', the film on the 2000 election, Bush/Gore, again, last night and thought of the current. "Acorn" voter registration fraud that has investigations going on in a dozen states at the present time.

Add to that, the Obama, Ayers connection to the ACORN, community service organizations in which Obama has been heavily involved.

The plots both thicken and sicken, do they not?

Such fun every four years......

I heard the same speculation about Obama, and I heard speculation that investors simply dont expect Bush to do anything in the time he has left...combined with their concerns about Obama & McCain.

Thanx JBJ, guess this thread will have to wait a few days until peeps catch up with the latest spins and twists in this election...no biggee....

Psst. Ami?

Maybe it's cause some folks have the both of you on ignore.

Just saying.

It's a sure sign that someone is desperate and out of fresh ideas when they begin resorting to scare tactics to try to force their agenda.

Yes, it's those damn libs - if they really cared about us regular folks they'd all just curl up and die and save us the trouble of gassing them.

Actually, I think it's mostly republican economic policy driving the markets down, because empirically speaking, the markets always do much better under democrats than under republicans - you can just look that right up. But you just stick to any spineless, infantile little narrative that makes you happy.

In fact I think the only market crash that ever occurred under a democratic administration was the NASDQ crash in 2000, largely attributable to Greenspan's monetarist meddling, i.e., shoring up the dollar because of labor market fears and tanking exports at the exact moment when firms were making inroads into overseas markets which would have extended the party indefinitely.

In fact, tech investments remained strong well into this decade, and still continue fairly strong, it was mainly dot com speculators who took the hit.

Many of the peripheral fiascos, enron, etc., were attributable to large degree to the republican congress's blockage of financial transparency regulations.

So yeah, the market always dips when the country threatens to elect a democrat because it often means financiers will be forced to clean up their act, so they become petulant for a while and wingnuts start the whimpering and handwringing, but eventually the economy starts moving again, and it turns out that you can make an honest buck if you actually put your mind to it - who'uda thunk?

I dont see Ami complain about being on IGNORE; it doesnt bother me. I suspect that the only people it bothers are the ones who use it.

Sometime back I received an email from a forum that asked me to participate as they needed a different viewpoint from the overwhelming left wing liberals that populated the site.

Here, the opposite mind set prevails as the entrenched lefties either ignore or disregard an opposite viewpoint, preferring instead the daisy chain of similar backscratching sameness of the litany.

In fact, you should feel fortunate that I, and a few others, even take the time to stem the left wing tide of thought and opinion that loves to run roughshod over any opposing thoughts that arise.

I still maintain that the 'true' Barack Obama will be exposed and that there will be a landslide election in favor of the Republicans in all three branches of government....

"...oh, wouldn't that be loverly....?":rose:

Obama is the Messiah, doncha know.

PREDICTION: Obama becomes President, but there isnt a spare dime in all of America to pay for the socialist utopia he promises. There wont be money to do shit with. Nancy, Hillary, and Harry then spend 4 years kicking his ass, and Obama goes down in the history books as the most conservative President ever.

That is so ironic: The most liberal politician in DC and not a penny to spend.

So he'll be like Bill Clinton, who, once he got in office and actually saw the true deficit said something like, "Well, I guess we're all Roosevelt Republicans now."

Wouldn't that be a kick in the ass, a Dem being the most conservative? The future implications!

Amicus, simple questions

About how many electoral votes will mccain get, when he wins? Will he squeak by, or have a comfortable lead, or an overwhelming one, like GWB, first term?

Figure he'll pick up most of the 'swing' states like Ohio, Fla, Pa, Missouri?

What kind of Republican sweep should we expect in the House and Senate as voters wake up at the last minute to the real threat to our way of life? I mean we've got *real* Pentagon bombing, America hating radicals ready to take over.

Details, please!

I'll bite. I don't think markets think beyond today's closing bell. I think this is yet another Republican campaign floater to try to scare voters away from the Democrats in the elections. Nothing new to see here, folks.

Yes, Amicus said a 90 percent win for the Republicans. I've kept track of that one.

(And am not laughing about that yet--I'm one to think a lot of things can happen between now and the close of the polls. But amicus seems so sure.)
