I just wanted to send my prayers and positive thoughts to those in My home state of Colorado. The wildfires have claimed a lot of homes, over 400 in one fire and wiped out a big attraction 45 miles from where I used to live.
Hang on folks the summer hasn't even begun yet.

You know, most of the time when we read about wildfires, it's during California's burning season. I rarely hear about fires in other regions.

I hope peeps are safe up there.

:rose:
I'm sorry, it must be devastating and very worrying to be there hoping it won't happen.

Colorado has its share of the wildfires. It's having much more than it's share now, however. Praying for rain.

I hear little about the fires on the news here, but with my entire family living within an hours' drive of the three major fires I hear more detail. Colorado Springs lost over 300 homes on it's west side last summer and now more than 400 on the east side.

I remember driving down US24 back in September and seeing a huge area of freshly charred trees. I understand that this fire went thru the area even faster than last years.
Anyway, my thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this recent fire.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I wanted to post a couple of pics taken from Colorado. A small town of about 400 is almost certain to be wiped out from what I last heard, and my brothers are under pre-evac orders for another 10,000 acre fire that is threatening the area I grew up in.

A few more shot by my brother. Shows how close the slurry bombers are flying.

Where are the new fires? (Might be time to start calling relatives again.)

We had a fire start in AZ just a few days ago, just west of Prescott. Within half a day it grew from the original 8 acres to 5000! I believe it grew to about 7000 before containment finally got established. It's at 15% contained as of earlier this evening. Friends up there have been posting pix. (It's the Doce fire for anyone curious enough to Google.) There was a fire in nearly the same area just a few years ago.

I have a good net-friend whose home was threatened up in CO. Two of her neighbors completely lost their homes (one had only the stone fireplace standing), but hers survived with just a little smoke damage to the outside. Almost as capricious as tornadoes.

Newest fires are near Del Norte near Wolf Creek pass. Last I heard the town of South Fork was in grave danger and fire crews were thinking they won't be able to save it. The other is in the south east part of the state near Walsenburg CO. That one last I heard was spreading east and west. The Walsenburg fire is near my family. There are four others in the northern portion of the state but those weren't threatening civilization last I knew.

Thanks. Our ties are in Denver/Fort Collins and in a valley extending south from Slater toward Hayden--so central and north/northeast. A cousin in Canon City. Will be thinking of the southeast, though.

You might check with the cousin in Canon. They had a huge fire near the Royal Gorge recently that wiped out that whole operation and forced the DOC to evac the one of the prisons. There is also a new fire around the Cotopaxi area.
