I got a good chuckle this week, thinking about our attitudes towards change. Actually, I had a good cry, too, and even the key there was that it was good . The doom-and-gloom crowd insist that change is a sign of crisis. What about you? Do you mind being a negative statistic? or, Do you prefer to beat the odds by centering your attention on a positive path for change? Do the possibilities excite you?

Gloom and Doom speaking

I am weary of change and look forward to stability in my life.

But, you know that .

I don't believe in change for change sake but like to have a positive outlook in life and accept that there will be changes. As long as we can adapt to those changes and use them to our own advantage

I don't know you and I am in kind of a hurry but I want to post to this.

I had a semi-major life changing event this week. I have not let it get me down or scare me. I have enough confidence in myself to know that the good thing will come along and I will keep looking until it does.

Change to me, is an adventure not a crisis. It's just another curve in my road and I will keep going.

I look forward to the change that will bring me to a good place, all the time worrying about what could go wrong.

I believe my life will be interesting and I'm curious to find out what's next.

An ancient proverb says that the power of butterfly's wings can be felt on the other side of the world. I've never heard anything so true until I first heard this. An individual can make a great impact on the indivisible with the subtleist change, whether it be negative or positive is up to that individual. If everyone made a small positive change it would be felt around the world.

BTW, great thread.:rose:

Hi, MissT. Long time no talk. I know positive attitudes don't change negative circumstances, but a positive attitude sure helps when it comes to shoveling shit.:D

and...yes, MagicMan, change is inevitable, so it pays to see it in a positive light.

I have tried at times to put my finger on why some people are so negative. They seem to only have one, gloomy, common denominator - shit happens . I'm not paritcularly optimistic, but a brighter reality does await those who work towards a positive attitude.

I'm looking forward to MagicMan changing his av. That shit gave me a headache.

Are you suggesting that if you have a positive attitude when "shit happens" that it isn't really shit?

That sounds more like having one's head in the clouds.

:D

Seriously though, sometimes the change we seek is in our immediate life circle. Look within, before looking without.

Rose, didn't I read about a work adjustment for you? Great attitude! Feed us some of your story...please. We need the triumphs of those who are challenged. They inspire us to greater heights.

Wiggles...great outlook..."looking forward" is the key, I think. There's a lot to learn from our past, but it's too easy to spend our time captivated by the rearview mirror. Projecting negative thoughts and ideas is a disease, too. Dream on!

CC69, I love that proverb. I had never heard it. It is the simple, positive, forward steps that take us to our dreams. No...I don't believe in Santa Claus.:D

See my sig :D

Shit can be a nuisance...or, it can be fertilizer.:D You don't have to have your head in the clouds to see its benefits. If you believe that shit begets shit, then your negative projection will undoubtedly become your lot in life.

As for looking within, I would agree that it should be balanced with outlook. Many of our answers are found within our own heart. It pays to know your heart, and to listen to the voice of its blueprint.

Geography has taught me that my gene pool didn't stay at home on the family farm. The courage to set a course for a dream is something I have known my whole life. I balance that with hard work.

Realism and negativity do not go hand in hand.

However, I am not going to compromise your thread with anymore of my posts.

For clarification, I am one of the Gloom and Doomers erosman has spoken about.

:)

Enjoy your discussion about the merits of change. Timely and well thought change is a good thing when it is in the best interest of everyone in your life circle.

A Woman of Security here...

and change has frightened me in the past. So I sought it as gloom, but thanks to several people in my life reminding me that change can be good it was. I think if we look at it as a positive thing most of us will have a positive reaction to it. Not always easy to remember and to put into practice but it makes the transition smoother.

Scratching head. Not sure if I answered it or not. Just realize when you are going through everything it might feel overwhelming and horrible. In hindsight.... a thing all of us wish we knew prior .... reasons are clearer of where we end up at this portion of our lives.

Life is a constant motion you have to take the good with the bad... every breath we inhale and exhale is allowing change in... So the physics that things are in constant motion.....

Peace,
Tulip

tulip, I agree with the security issue. It seems like insecurity and negativity can be best friends. They both feed self-pity. There is something positive and secure about looking beyond one's self and seeing the real hues of life.

Hello My Friend....

I too wish for a little stability, this being on the look out for the next big thing is tiresome....But we shall overcome as they say lol....Hugs erosman......

Hi, a-w. Thanks for the hug. It's been a very long time. I need to catch up on your doings.

What is negative or positive change? It is all relative and strictly in the eye of the one experiencing it.

Getting laid off? That could be a negative but I am choosing to look at it from the stand point of new avenues and new things to experience.

It is easy to be miserable and it certainly gets one more attention than being accepting and making the best of the situation one finds herself in.

Change is good, as it is a sign of ones growth as a person, but, it only comes about, through self-awareness.

Great attitude, Rose. The color of one's glasses - whether rose or shit - does have an effect. I think the real issues, as tulip mentioned, are in the arena of security. When we feel insecure, we tend to seek sympathy to prop ourselves up. The problem is that it often leads us to powerlessness and a negative outlook. There are lessons to be learned from people who overcome overwhelming obstacles and odds and learn to live life with a positive attitude. It doesn't mean that the shit of life doesn't get on us, but, as Trail notes, we can have a positive expectation, and with a good attitude, we can get the cleaning done quicker.

bored1 suggests self-awareness is a key. I would agree. Following the stereotypical route is sure to get you conformity. If you thrive on statistics, then you'll become one. Learning to listen to the blueprint of your heart can make one feel individual and exceptional. But...it takes courage.

No one has a corner on the heartache market. We all suffer from it at one time or another.

No one has a corner on misfortune. It befalls us all, occassionally. None of us are immune.

I am lucky in that I have many friends and a great family who I can depend on to lift me up and never allow me to wallow in self misery. Self pity is unbecoming and I try to not do that, especiially where it can be seen by others. Eventually, it gets old and keeps your friends at arm's length. Being miserable paralyzes you. The focus is on the wrong things. And good adventures can't happen.

When I am alone, I do reassess my life and my decisions and those events that have happened. I do ask advice. But I will not allow myself to be unhappy for long.

Most of us are drawn to and want to be like people who are happy and balanced. And we tend to draw people to us, who are most like us.

I received a card this week from a wonderful friend. Thanks!

It reads simply:

Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles; it emties today of its strength.

I think it applies to more than worry, frankly. There is an entire host of negative activity that only seems to drain today of its potential.

edited to add: It's a Mary Engelbreit creation.
