Porter Ranch Gas Leak [Kind of a big deal]

What?

Ford routinely dumps thousands of new cars in the ocean to drive up the price of new cars.

It's like you don't business!

I had to take SCUBA classes just to shop for a new car. It's a real pain in the ass but the discount is great.

Yes! Let's eradicate our affluent customer base, drop property value by half, put them in nice hotels and then... wait... that just might not be a good idea.

You a troll or really this dumb?

I sometimes weep for humanity. It's kinda sad seeing the reality of maybe it's not the dumbasses in government as it is the dumbass citizens

Well, looky here

They have been making us sick and endangering our lives for over a half century.

This is what the well in Porter Ranch looks like... it was completed in 1953 and was equipped with a downhole "safety" valve which is a device that was originally developed by Halliburton in the 1940s to prevent catastrophic releases of reservoirs to the surface.
The "safety" valve was removed by SoCal Gas Company in 1979 and never replaced. DOGGR regulators... should sit in the same jail cell with the managers that allowed this to happen.
According to quotes from company representatives, the valve was old, unreliable, and could not be serviced. The company further justifies its removal and decision not to replace it based on difficulty in obtaining replacement parts and that the well was not considered a critical well which they define as one being close to roadways or sensitive receptors.

No Smoking, eh?

But seriously, if it's just one well, can it just be cemented?

A State of Emergency has been issued for the site and the Southern California Gas Co. has spent around $50 million and could cost over $1 billion to fix.

From what I understand, they're not going to be able to fix it for months yet.

Are they being sued by anyone? They should definitely have to pay billions for the damage that they're causing.

Well good luck getting anything out of them.
If they need to raise rates for 6 years to fund a $30 million inspection program then how will mega millions be paid in compensation? Raise rates again of course, and everyone pays.

On the other hand, maybe Volkswagen emissions from a few VW diesel cars that (by comparison) trickle out some NOX will be able to pay for the whole works in EPA fines.
Or, how about emissions regulations applying to rocket launches? Jet airplanes anyone? Farm equipment?

See, the scam is to tax the average person, not government agencies and programs.

You do know that the only by product of an orbital or even sub-orbital launch vehicle is H2O? The fuel is LOX+LH. Burn Hydrogen and Oxygen together and you get water as a by product.

What about the footprint of making the fuel?

You do know there are no space shuttle launches any more, groveller?

Still rockets launch all the time and it does take a lot to make the fuel and rockets and all that stuff.
The emissions are clean but not the processes of making the stuff to begin with.
That being said, it's probably pretty small compared to airlines and cars and maybe even cows. Plus the benefits of all those launches mostly outweighs the negatives.

After he got banned for being a twat, he grovelled to Laurel to get his name back instead of accepting a 1 like a real cross dresser.

Swish accepted nothing. He cried to Laurel on the GB in front of god and everybody.

Volkswagen is in trouble because its diesel cars are putting out more pollution than they should be. VW is being sued civilly and charged criminally. And yet every Volkswagen on the road in California, possibly in the entire country, is not putting out as much pollution as the Porter Ranch leak.

Is it fair that this company even exists anymore?

Why hasn't every penny, pipe, tool, and well belonging to SoCal been taken over by either California or the Federal Government. The state/country could put its resources toward solving this problem, then sell off the assets, then jail the SoCal "criminals".

What this country needs is a benevolent dictator. I volunteer.

I just find the thought of a Lance PM to Laurel crying and promising to be a good boy in future hilarious.

Kind of funny no matter who it is. It's an internet forum. Get banned, move on. Nothing you miss will matter just as nothing you see if you stay will matter.
I've been banned from places before and never put much thought into it. Obviously you are either not wanted or you broke the rules. Find a new home and don't fret over it.
Unless you're a troll then you find a new name and bug the shit out of people for no particular reason.

Methane isn't poisonous alone but it can suffocate you by reacting with oxygen in the lungs. Plus, it's just a wee bit flammable.
