I saw this come across my Facebook feed (see why I don't add you deviants?? ;))

I really had to shake my head, so I thought I would put it before you! I thought about the General Board, but we all know they aren't having as much fun as here on the Playground (can I get a round of applause for the not-so-PG PG?)

Tell me if you agree or disagree with any of this:

5 Pornography Realities

1. Disinterest in Marital Sex

Viewing pornography creates the Coolidge Effect or novelty-seeking behavior. The effect is declined arousal with the same mate, and the only way to restore arousal, is by having different mates regularly. Porn trains the brain to continual newness. The effects, of course, often lead to infidelity or a complete lack of sexual interest towards ones spouse.

2. Lack of Control

1 in 5 people, who watch pornography regularly, admit they feel controlled by their sexual desires. Much like a drug user becomes powerless over their addiction, pornography seeps in and dominates every area of your life.

3. Never Satisfied

64% say the type of pornography they indulge in becomes increasingly extreme and deviant. When you consider these effects with the fact that people are viewing pornography at a younger age, the long-term results will only lead towards a broader spectrum of acceptable deviance.

4. Greater Risk of Sexual Dysfunction

Ironically enough, the more you sexualize yourself the more likely you are to be unable to be sexual. Among the 27-31 year olds surveyed, 19 percent suffer from premature ejaculation, 25 percent are disinterested in sex with their partner, 31 percent have difficulty reaching orgasm, and 34 percent experience erectile dysfunction. These are young men with these problems! Of these men surveyed, 60% felt sexual function improved after committing to no pornography.

5. Less Energy Levels and Productivity

67% felt an energy increase and felt more productive after they stopped using pornography.

I think it's impossible to consider pornography in isolation (and, what is qualifying as pornography, here?), but needs to be considered in a wider cultural context. Personally, I suspect a sexually repressed society might lead to an increase in 1, 2, 3, and 5 where porn is concerned, while a more sexually open one could lead to a decrease there. I could well be wrong, though. The language is also broad and avoiding any specifics of individual circumstances.

But if I had to use as blunt an approach as the example you give uses - it's talking bollocks :)

Come up to my attic, BFG, and we can discuss your concerns in private ;)

Yes... we need to discuss #2 - 5. I think it would behoove us to do a scientific experment of this theory.

*looks at the stairs and rolls my eyes*

When are you getting an elevator put in? ;)

Ohhhhh... good point. "Repressed society". But "repressed" is as fluid as the word "deviant"... everyone really has their own standards, yes?

Positive, artistically rendered, erotic, sexual, uplifting, affirming YES. Degradation, humiliation, crude, poorly photographed bdsm NO.

I can't stare at your ass as you walk up the elevator.....;)

I'll clarify 'repressed' to mean (in my post, at any rate) any society that promotes shame around basic hardwired things like a person's sexual appetite; or even the shame around a person's own body - in a wider societal sense, too, rather than an individual's own perception.

But, as I said, this is just my suspicion.

So, only poor BDSM will make someone dissatisfied, out of control, dysfunctional, and lethargic?

What if someone is into humiliation and degradation? What if what you call humiliation is what others call repressed?

Naughty!!! I know exactly what I'll wear!

That's a good definition. Basic sexual appetite... I like that phrase. :rose:

As to points #2-5, I seem to feel the opposite, although I think some of that may be because of my depression (undiagnosed, but yeah). The more depressed I am, the less I feel for all aspects of my life, sex included. Porn (and by extension, Lit) gives me a boost, a needed surge of endorphins to keep me going.

I think these statistics are vague enough to be interesting, but not specific enough to really prove anything.

*Puts on his scientist hat.*

With many of these studies, what they have are "associations." That they then interpret as "causal." Causality - especially in things like this - is really difficult.

For example, "1 in 5 people, who watch pornography regularly, admit they feel controlled by their sexual desires." The implied interpretation is, if you watch pornography it will CAUSE you to feel controlled by your sexual desires. But I might offer, people who felt that way first, might be really likely to watch pornography.

Four is a joke: without comparison to a good control group I have no idea if those numbers are high. And frankly, again...which causes which? Could it possibly be that being disinterested in your partner (people got disinterested in their partner long before the internet) causes you to seek pornography? (Um..the answer is yes). And so on and so on.

Basically, look. I do think we should study this. :)devil:...a lot..I'm happy to be in the experimental group ) And I do have concerns about how pornography portrays women, and men, and sex in general.

But I have concerns about how the media in general and the movies and TV do that too. And kids and adults are exposed to that much more often.

I love that you put this up!!!!

As a couple we watch porn together on occasion. We know each others tastes and what turns us both on. In this context I see it as beneficial, as in, we beneficial the f$#k out of each other ;)

Jokes aside, I can see how certain types of porn could cause serious issues for some, particularly young men and boys and their expectations of what sex and women should be.

What if two partners share their porny adventures? And seek novelty together? And both openly and collaboratively work to broaden their shared sexy horizons?

Kinda like when ya watch HGTV together, and then go "Oooh white marble. No, wait, stainless steel!"

Except with fucking instead of backsplashes.

ETA: Asian Flower, you're my kinda girl ;)

I think this is awesome!

Seriously, can you recommend some...erm...resources for me...

I seriously thought you'd post a link in honor of Little Sister :D
Damn, I miss LS.....she could always get me laughing with her links...:rose:

I think porn can be beneficial if you both go in with an open mind, and communicate with your partner.

But then, I'm twice divorced , what the fuck do I know lol

I agree with Trekka. Watching porn together can be exceptionally hot and add to your overall experience. Plus, if you're looking at the right stuff you can get some pretty cool ideas that you may not have had otherwise.

On the other hand (and as with anything) it can have all the adverse effects listed. It depends on the stability of the person. Then again, a box of doughnuts can have an adverse effect on the wrong person--it's called moderation people!

I also want to add to what Asian Flower said about younger guys having unrealistic impressions of how to please and treat a women by watching porn. Everyone will see porn, no way to stop that, but how about some better equality and realism in our porn? In order to (hopefully) get guys treating women like they need to be treated? Just a thought.

That said, if I have a choice between being addicted to The Walking Dead or sexy, erotic, naked people fucking each other's brains out . . . (Insert zipper unzipping sound effect here)

You do realize there's a Walking Dead porn parody; the best of both worlds :D

But what if this here educated, liberated, independent woman wants to get fucked like a filthy little porn starlet?
