PORNLAND author - What do you think?

As the mother of a teenage boy I tend to agree with Gail. I rarely watch porn anymore because of the blatant degradation of women. I often think 'Surely she can't be enjoying 'that'?! There's no kissing, no thought for her pleasure, no tenderness.

Is this really what we want our men to expect from us?

Frankly, my dear, NO (not over here, anyway)

However, she's being paid loads of money to look like she's enjoying it and getting what she wants.

The amateur stuff is about as good as it gets at the moment.

I agree. Couples that sincerely care about each other, getting it on, is HOT!

Interesting what she says about softcore porn being so prevalent in society that hardcore pornographers have to keep upping the ante. What's next? Pornographic snuff movies?

Sorry, but it begs to be asked. What the hell are you doing here, on a PORN SITE?

The 'artistic' and photographic porn available in Napoleon III's Paris was as hard as any available now.

The written, illustrated and live porn at the Roman Emperors' palaces was as hard as any available now. Much of the three dimensional porn was destroyed by Christian Mrs Grundys but some has survived.

The porn still visible in Pompeii is mild compared to most modern porn. Why not? Pompeii was a small provincial town that didn't share the dissipation of Rome.

The internet has made porn more available and easier to access but the nature of the porn hasn't changed in a couple of thousand years except that killing people for erotic satisfaction is generally illegal. (It was in Roman times but who was going to prosecute the Emperor?)

Darlin' we're all adults here. I'm not here denigrating porn because I write it, I'm asking if this is the impression we want to give young men of how women should be treated. In short I want some honest opinions on what this woman is saying. Do I want my 14 yr old believing that his girlfriend wants to be fucked up the ass then choked while he comes in her eyes?

Did you even bother to read the article???

Og,

Ever read the Life and Works of the Marquis de Sade. I remember mention of a brothel in Paris where killing was an acceptable part of the action.

Societies have been or became licentious over the ages but was it ever as prevalent and accessible as it is today?

It depends. One study of Victorian London suggested that there could have been one prostitute for every three adult males. That is far higher than almost anywhere in the world today. If that figure was anywhere near the truth, sex was more available than it was even in the Swinging Sixties.

What's prevalent and accessible today isn't sex.

It's fuckotainment. We can watch as much sex as we'd ever want to watch. Motion pictures and home entertainment made us all into peeping toms. The Internet put Rule 34 into effect. So everyone can get exactly what they want all the time.

As long as what we want isn't to do the actual fucking ourselves.

You would be surprised at how little money they are paid for their performance. Although the women do get paid more than the men.

Mmm...back in '75 when I was stationed in Korea I would say that was the ratio of the club girls to service men on the airbase. Even if you just wanted a drink, when you walked in you were accosted by three to four prostitutes before you sat down.

Just in case you were wondering...$10 long time (over night), $5 short time (about an hour), $2 BJ. C'mon it was 1975...I could get a custom fit suit with two pair of pants and a vest for $23, the same quality as you pay $200 for in the states at the time.

What I think is more worrying for parents is the prevalence of violence in films, games and in TV programmes.

What was unacceptable in the 1950s for adult rated films is normal for films aimed at pre-teens.

At another level I'm deterred from watching action movies by the replacement of plot by gratuitous violence. A single action movie now seems to require more kills than D-Day.

I don't have any idea of what the percentages would be, but I believe most porn in movies or tapes or pictures is of adult men and women enjoying sex with one another. :) There is violence, usually against women, and disgusting things such as golden showers and ATM, but I believe that is only a small percemtage of porn. Personally, I nevr have written about that kind of stuff, and never will, at least not here. With a few exceptions, I write about men and women and werewolves and unicorns and Zoopians enjoying sex.

As for anal sex being fun for women, put it this way: I write about it, even DP's, and have gotten emails from women, always anon., telling me they like what I write and they like doing it.

Of course, there is very little foreplay in porn. After all, if there is a 15 minute flick and the first 14 minutes are spent kissing and petting, who will pay to watch it?

Telephone sex lines in the UK are often long on foreplay and short on actual sex so that you will pay for minutes of build-up before reaching the climax you hoped for.

A recent complaint from a user of a UK telephone sex service to a Trading Standards Department was dismissed. He had selected a line that promised abuse from a mature housewife. He got a tirade about how he never tidied up, left the toilet seat up, didn't do his fair share of the household chores, should iron his own shirts etc. Trading Standards suggested that he got exactly what he paid for.

This goes back a lot more than 15 years. Did you ever see what were called "Spaghetti Westerns?"

Not impressed by the article.

She's another in a long line of people that want to control what other people watch, read, play or listen to. These people, if they get their way, are far more damaging to human culture than any video nasty.

I know what you mean. Although I don't like movies or stories about men or women being abused, even though I have written some, I like censorship a lot less. There are some people who would like to see this site and others like it closed down, and I'm sure Gail ia one of them.

Concern for the young exposed to pictures, books, radio, movies, and now the internet puts even more pressure on our society to instruct the young much more thoroughly. As our society gets more complex our instruction must get more complex to prepare our youth for real life, not the kind portrayed in the multi-medias, which are only out to sell you something.

Young children can understand that Lassie didn't really fall in the well, it was make believe. Boys understand that Playboy models aren't the girl next door, unless you were really, really lucky. And Jenna Jensen isn't really going to let you fuck her in the ass, even if you wanted to get a dirty dick!

Laws do not prevent the brain-washing of our future, only action directly at the heart of the matter will counteract the "poisoning of their minds."

Sex education in grade schools, High Schools and Universities should adapt to the age needs of the students and must provide a major socialization function, because the "Dark Lords of Finance" have established a mandate for two income family, if you want to keep up with the expectations that they try to plant in your brain.

Not all porn is degrading to women. Some of us find that non-erotic, stomach turning sometimes. But much of it is filth, or stupid.

It must be Rule 34?

There has been someone like Gail Dines railing about porn as long as I can remember. When Playboy magazine first appeared, its claim to fame was showing nude women. Their crotches were airbrushed into a neutral state, but their nipples were exposed. At that time, the 1950s, that was really hot stuff. Playboy magazine was branded by the Gail Dineses of the period as pornographic and, even worse, degraded and demeaned women. Some years later, Playboy caused another sensation by showing the models' pubic hair, as well. Once again, the Gail Dineses were on the job. When hard porn movies were shown in movie theaters, beginning, I think, with Deep Throat, the Gail Dineses were right out there. And so on, and so on, and so on.

Porn has grown and thrived because it serves an almost universal need, which we all understand. As long as there is a market demand for it, there will be porn. I doubt if it will change anyone's life for good or ill. In my view, it's only an adjunct to masturbation.
