Porn vids vs Erotica

Given enough time and reduced friction (eg category misalignment), should we expect the proportion of categories of erotica approach the proportions of porn vids? It seems today they are not even close. Here on Lit, incest is #2 and Loving Wives #4. On pornhub, for example, there isn’t even a category for incest and ‘cuckolding’ is really small. That being said, there are lots of ‘in the family’ porn and cheating porn, but in different categories. A key difference is Lit stories are written to match the author’s interests, porn vids are made to meet market demands. But why don’t they line up better? Do literate people have different interests than the visual people?

It is more difficult to present a video as incest, and there are more legal restrictions on videos than text.

I think they are likely to remain different.

I would say, No, we shouldn't expect much alignment, because the populations of porn vid watchers and erotica readers probably are quite different. Many people don't read anything. Probably quite a few erotica readers don't watch videos. Plus, different video and erotica story platforms have their own peculiar rules and guidelines. Pornhub may not have an explicit category for incest, probably for legal reasons, but you certainly can find "mom and son" videos there. In fact, it's possible that there may be more overlap than you realize. The ability to determine how MUCH overlap may be stymied by the way the different sites are set up.

Also, different erotica sites cater to different tastes. Literotica is known as a site that has a lot of adult incest but that completely prohibits underage stories, unlike some other sites. So Literotica is not representative of erotica generally.

In the porn world, there's a ton of "Step Mom" or "Step Daughter"

It's really a *wink, wink* in my opinion. To me, it's implied that it's actually incest porn, but as mentioned, it could be a way to get around legal restrictions.

Plus I think it's plain embarrassing for a porn star/director to say, "Yeah, I just made incest porn."

With online erotica, anything goes.

Yes, that is the friction I referred to. Pornhub's categories are more akin to tags, and 'Anal' is the #1 tag on Literotica by a wide margin but not the biggest category. That being said, one wonders if there are two largely different groups, the 'what porn do you watch?' and the 'what erotica do you read?"

They don't use the word incest....just go to Porn Hub and type in mom, sister, step mom daddy etc.

I have noticed that the sites know how big taboo is by now using mom to describe a regular milf...Hot mom fucks delivery guy...so they're just avoiding the word

You can't search rape there, or even forced...but search rough gang bang and you'll find a slew of rape fantasy type vids(kink dot com...the biggest site for that)

Its just playing it safe so the word doesn't draw the bible thumpers who get off on it then run somewhere to report it.

I think people with a particular taste in erotica can have a more believable experience reading it than watching it. In my experience amateur porn rarely even attempts a storyline; if you want an incest or non-con video, you pretty much have to watch the professionally produced stuff. And with professional studios, you KNOW they are just actors playing roles. You've seen the same actors in other roles.

I suspect with written erotica it is easier to suspend disbelief and imagine that taboo scenarios are "real". I mean there are writers on Lit who claim to write real-life experiences (there are some who I actually believe). I've written stories inspired by actual events and I've had readers comment on my completely fictitious stories believing they were true.

So while porn studios can make videos in certain categories, I doubt they'll ever be able to make them "believable" for their audience the way erotica writers can.

Although I may be overestimating the average porn viewer.

Well, yeah they're actors otherwise it would be illegal...

I agree that written erotica can be more realistic, but a lot of people are more visual and want to watch it rather than imagine it.

There are a lot of reasons why I wouldn't expect the proportions to line up particularly well.

Different sites have different restrictions. Some are externally imposed (video porn is subject to legal and commercial restrictions that don't necessarily apply to the written word) and some are internal (e.g. if I recall correctly, some of Literotica's major competitors disallow incest, which probably makes it bigger here that it would otherwise be).

Some things are difficult or expensive to portray on film. Cuckold stories often focus on the husband's inner feelings, and it's a lot easier to convey that in a first-person text piece than in film. Exotic settings/action are cheaper to write than film!

Contrarywise, some things work better on film: "a picture's worth a thousand words" and all that.
