Is there anything I can do about popup ads when I log on here. I am plagued by them, and can hardly reach the forums.

I thought this site was free of them? You may want to let Manu or Laurel know of this.
Or install an adware program that blocks them.

Lit has no pop ups. You probably have spyware on your machine that pops up sex sites when you hit lit. I would suggest Lava soft's adaware6 or Spybot search & destroy. Either will find the intrusive software & remove it, but spy bot willinoculate you machine against a lot of it.

I think I'm getting them too.

Everything was fine until my kid downloaded a make-your-own-music demo app, and that brought with it spyware and pop-ups that Ad-Aware6 seems helpless against. I've updated Ad Aware and it still doesn;t get them all.

But since the pop-ups I get here are all smut-related, I think it's something on the site. I seem to get them whenever I go to read a story.

Try spybot Doc. Most of the newer spy ware is sensitive to what site you are trying to get to, if you are going to a sex site, it tries to direct you to its sex sites.

I've had no trouble with my machine since I put it on and used the innoculate feature to keep my machine from accepting the majority of it, no matter how it tries to sneak onto the machine.

Literotica has no popups. I have never gotten one in the years I have been visiting this site.

If anyone is getting popups then you have downloaded some form of spyware and it is inserting them. You should try some of the programs suggested here like Spybot.

Keeping up with your Windows updates helps too, helps plug the holes that some spyware uses to sneak onto your mahine.

Is it Acid, Ejay or FruityLoops?

I have spykiller, it takes them all. Do the spyware test on the opening page of Lit. I check it often.

Some Ejay versions, Magix, and a circulating version of Qunic are all littered with spyware.

Best thing I ever did was sweeping my computer clean of the junk with Spybot, then switch to Firebird as my standard web browser. Haven't had a single problem since.

Ah. I never used Ejay - never bothered it with a look. That would explain my lack of knowledge about its infectious nature.

I think it worked. I took the spyware test and was told I had something called "Bargain Buddy". I went to my computer control panel and opened "Add or Remove Programs". Bargain Buddy was there and I removed it. When I came back hewre, I ran the spyware test again and got a negative result and no popups.:rose: :)

Install adawar or spybot on your machine and run themoccasionally, you should find popups are less of a pain. I would also suggest popupstopper by panic ware, to keep from getting the darned things in the first place :)

Me too! For the last month I've been getting pop-ups just about every time I go to a different website address. I tried the tester thing on the front page of lit, but no luck, so I'm downloading spybot now. Fingers crossed...

Are you paying for spybot? Or do they have a free download?

It's free. But they ask you to donate money if you like it.

It's free, I'm too poor to pay attention :)

There is a little thing to donate if you wish. When I first got it and realized how good it was I had my roomie send five dollars through her pay pal account.

The Google toolbar will also stop popups. It's useful once you've got the other programs in place. When you use the Google toolbar you can choose to allow pop ups on certain sites by pressing the control button (you may not get certain windows you want opening up otherwise)

Google Toolbar

The pop-ups I used to get would just eat the google toolbar for breakfast. Google was no match for them. It would catch maybe one out of ten.

I just downloaded and ran spybot, and so far so good. If this works I'll definitely make a contribution.

Doc it's worth having Ad-aware 6.0 from lavasoft too, it works well in combo with spybot. I know I'm risking the ire of the God/ess Of Computing (whoever they may be) in saying this, and I'll probably live to regret it... I haven't had a pop up ad in about a year fingers crossed, three hail mary's, planets in the correct alignment...;)

PS I do recall the great invasion that took place on your machine and ensuing angst. If I remember rightly there was a collective pox on the heads of all spammers sent out over the Lit ether.
