What kind of stories are the most popular? If I write a story I want to make sure that people will actually read it.

Scroll through the overall toplist and look at the number of votes for the various kinds of stories.

Just tread lightly if you dare to venture into "loving wives"

You can't go wrong with erotic couplings really, pretty large and not terribly hostile audiance.

Bad question........

I could tell you "Cook Books" and it would be very true! But I don't want to go fruitty on you. You see the thing is we can give you current trends on top seller's, but then by the time you finish writing one, the whole target audience will have changed their minds. Generally standard seller's in the last few decades have been westerns, science fiction, fantasy, murder mysteries, slueth tales, Saga's and intricate drama's. Fact is, you really need to find your nitch. You can't go writing about anything and maintain any respectability. #1 advice: Write about what you know!

Well written ones...
Then you obviously have no trouble finding readers. I love your Montana Summer series and am waiting along with everyone else to see the next chapter.

There's no good break-out on the number of votes per category. However, based on my experience and on the number of stories submitted, the most popular category is Incest. Here are the categories (other than the catch-all Erotic Couplings) with over 5000 stories posted.

Incest...............11340
BDSM................8850
Loving Wives......8780
Group Sex..........7500
Exhibition...........5250
Non-consent......5030

Don't try Humour/Satire if you want readers. Begging reads and votes in that category takes more time than writing the damn story.

Incest and Lesbian sex seem to get some attention, as does Erotic couplings.

In any category, drivel will be ignored and go unread. (see my stories for confirmation).

Non-erotic poetry is unlikely to be read.

Non-erotic prose isn't either.

Reviews and essays only attract attention in a competition such as last year's Free Speech.

Most Chain Stories, and Novels/Novellas wait for readers.

As stated by Rumple above - INCEST gets most attention.
