Channelling his "inner-Sarah Palin", Pope Benedict announced his plans to retire today. LINK

He will be the first pope to retire since the Middle Ages.

No staying power, those Nazis. Look how they fell apart in 1945.

Cool, I've been looking for a new career. Does the Pope get cooch?

There ARE differences between the two men, though:
  • Hitler took his "life appointment" seriously.
  • Hitler waited until he was an adult to join the Nazi party

The conspiracy sites are all proclaiming the coming of Peter the Roman.

Not a fair comparison. Darth Pontiff says he is just too old and infirm to handle it any more, which is understandable -- he is 85 years old and, it is rumored, has Parkinson's. Sarah Palin apparently just got bored with her job.

If he had held on to his position for just two more years, he'd have qualified for full benefits under the Romney-Ryan healthcare plan.

Let's hear it, who should take over?

What's the criteria? Biden is Catholic, right? He'd rock that joint.

Will the new Pope be required to meet minimum Molestation Experience Standards of 2.5 boys?

Quantifying the MES makes some sense but Bishops will lie on their Curriculum Vitae (CVs). Who is going to verify the numbers?

At this point, it would be great if the next pope were a LW liberation-theologian from a developing country.

I nominate Jean-Bertrand Aristide! :D (So he ain't a priest any more, so what, you don't need to be one to be papabile, see Gregory X.)

I'm wondering how much the monthly Pope pension is and if they have an income offset should Benny take a job in the private sector? If the fund hasn't had a cost of living adjustment in 600 years, his pontifship might be looking at a paltry benefit that could force him to become a ward of the Vatican state.

Parkinson's is covered under Obamacare

All the rats... and all that.
He never had anything new to bring into the church anyway.
