Popcorn Balls

freakygurl32

i loved your popcorn ball story. that is what is so great and unique about this place. i love it.

i can relate to Mrs P. i had a little old lady on my way to school when i was very young whom i had never met. one day on my way to school, she was by her fence and called me over as i walked by and she handed me a brown bag of candies and chips and cookies and pop and stuff. i asked her why she gave it to me. she replied that i was the only one who didnt pass her house and yell at her or throw things on her yard. she did not hand out things on hallowe'en ever. she really was a sweet old lady and i used to wave to her incase she was watching out the window.
of course in those days we didnt worry about anyone tampering with goodies and stuff.

your story made me laugh freakygurl, and it brought back some fond memories. thanks.

anyone have an actual recipe for popcorn balls? I have been wanting to make em for a while now, and can't find a recipe anywhere!

CARAMEL POPCORN BALLS

1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup dark corn syrup 1/4 cup margarine or butter 1/2 teaspoon salt
8 cups Popcorn (page 328)

Heat brown sugar, corn syrup, margarine and salt to simmering in 4-quart Dutch oven over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Add Pop-corn. Cook, stirring constantly, until Popcorn is well coated, about 2 minutes. Cool slightly.

Dip hands in cold water; shape mixture into 2-inch balls. Place on waxed paper; cool completely. Wrap individually in plastic wrap or place in plastic bags and tie. ABOUT 6 POPCORN BALLS.

Caramel Corn: Heat oven to 300Deg. Butter cookie sheet. Mix 1 cup pecan halves and 1/2 cup blanched almonds with Popcorn. Immediately after cooking, spread mixture on cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes. Cool 10 minutes; loosen mixture from cookie sheet with spatula. Let stand at room temperature 1 hour to harden. Store uncovered.
