Anyone else been getting them all the sudden?

I even have a blocker and they are still finding their way through.

Eeep! I don't believe I've ever had a pop-up from Lit.

Sorry, helene. :(

Unfortunately you've probably been infested with a worm or some other devious program. Laurel does say on the front of her site that should you experience pop-ups that you should inform them. What you probably need though is to update your pop-up definitions. If that doesn't work then download 'Spybot,' or 'Ad-aware,' or both.

Running these two programs usually leads to a satifactory conclusion to the problem. Another thing I did was to download yahoo messenger and allow it to give you a pop-up stopper in your browser. That stops no end of the little buggers. lol

Sorry if all that's no good, I'm just not tech minded enough to think of anything else. lol

Awww, thanks anyway Nips... I mean errr... Lucky.
;)

**sorry, was reminiscing your more virginal days, oh experienced one**

:p

Nips? :D

Ahem...back to the topic at hand. You're saying that when you access pages here at Lit, you're receiving pop-ups?

What an odd coincedence. I was just reminiscing about that very same thing, Lucky. (;

Thanks for the tip, Carl, but I already have adaware (not to imply that I have it configured properly though). I will check out that new yahoo feature you mentioned, despite that I don't put much faith in them after hearing some of the experiances on the good Dr.'s thread. I hope you are not right about it being some sort of virus!

Lucky, the problem has occured ever since I decided to check out the christmas background that Lit offers. I will get two pop-ups at once promoting sex animie and some other porn site. This is the only place I get pop-ups. Since I already have both URLs in my bookmarks, really no reason to keep seeing the ads. :D

I started getting some on another site, only on that site. When I deleted my temp. files and cookies, which I do once a week or so, they stopped.

I never thought of that! Thank you, Lisa.

You have to update adaware periodically, like your anti virus. I highly reccomend spybot, it's free and when run with adaware if really helps control spyware. The other reason I like spybot is that it has the option to innoculate your machine against a lot of spyware, thus you don't ever have to worry about picking up that particular program again.

Thanks for the advice, Colleen. I was not aware that Adaware required updates. About a month or so back, my Nortons picked up a threat called "Hacktoolz.com," along with 19 other small risks. I can't help but wonder if that is perhaps why all the flys keep gettin past my zapper.

Though a technician was the one to last format my hard, I did a search on Spybot, and it appears as though I already have it. I sometimes wish I had stuck with Windows 98.

I ran a scan without the update, came up clean, rna a second one after the update & it found 30 spyware items. No wonder my system has been giving me the low memory error.

Best of luck fixing it

*HUGS*

Thanks again, Colleen. I am seriously considering returning to "Pong" on my Atari. (Yes, I still have that along with intellevision, and the original nintendo)
