I want to write this beautiful, emotional, powerful story, but I feel that sex would ruin it. At least in this part of the story. It may be one that I do chapters with and the sexual part would be later. I want to write and really set it up to go a long way. So, my question. Who here would enjoy a good old fashioned romance story where you get left at the bedroom without seeing the action?

A lot of the erotic tension in a story is buildup, in which the characters want to have sex, but don't. Quite. Think of life... I once had a guy tell me it was much sexier not to do it. I didn't agree with him at the time, but I see now he had a point because I went around all day thinking about him, and imagining the things we would do when we finally did get together. A good story doesn't have to have sex on every page. (There should be some payoff if that's what you're after though.:) )

I'll be off to work in just a minute. I would like to have some thoughts posted when I get home, if no one minds.

That's kinda the answer I was looking for. Okay then, a 12 page Lit story it is. Trust me though, it will be well worth the read. I do have one question, to sidebar with the judge if I may, how do you guys format your stories when you send them? Do you double space and keep it all left block? Just curious.

I don't read for the sex, and RARELY find a story that arouses me even in the slightest.

Having said that, I can think of a few xmas entries that had me wishing I had more than mistletoe and a 9" dildo to keep me amused...

I mainly read the erotic horror section because at least there I know there will be a storyline.

I also read stories from the feedback forum, so sex, whether in a story or not plays a miniscule role.

I write in a works word processor program, single spaced, with a line skipped between each paragraph. Then I just copy the text and paste it into the text box with any special formatting in the notes box.

I not only write non-sexual, but also non-romantic stories, but have only published one here: "A Surfeit of Bard"

Several of my non-erotic, non-romantic stories can be found through the Non Erotic Stories link in my sig.

A fair number of (Non Erotic) Sci-Fi has been published in obscure Sci-Fi Zines under my RL name.

I already read one of those. "Lad, A Dog," by Albert Payson Terhune.

Bruce was sired by Lad, so how can you say there was no sex?

Oh my God! The other Albert Payson Terhune fan!

I loved all of the brilliant, socially aware Sunnybank collies, but especially Lad. He was deeply spiritual and non-violent by nature. Yet he was capable of ferocity in the defense of his beliefs. If I owned some sheep, I would trust Lad with their very lives.

A shame about his traitorous son, Wolf. I don't like to blame the mom, but Lady was so inconstent in her treatment of the puppies. Affectionate one moment, aloof the next. Pretty girl, but kind of a bitch.

Sometimes I wonder if I was influenced later in life by Lad and Lady's use of the term, "Master" to describe Terhune.

I think it's possible to have stories where chemistry and sexual under currents are present without evolving into the actual act.

I know. It's such a letdown, isn't it?

I never heard neither Lad nor Lady say the word Master even once, not even in print. Not in Terhune's books, anyhow.

Are you certain that you're not thinking of Barbara Eden?

Lad and Lady didn't talk, but their inner voices had highly developed verbal skills. They thought, "Master" the way regular dogs think, "Food Man" or "Too-Much-Aftershave Man."

Unlike Barbara Eden, they didn't have to be trapped in a jar to learn respect.

Unlike Lad & Lady, Barbara didn't learn how to play with a stick until the sixth season.

"Food Man" is my official name in this house.

For you, I'll make it something special. ;)

I really want to dig deep into a character, but don't want to go to far in the first story. *hint hint* Anyway, I've been finding lately that the more I think about how to make the sex scene, I lose the rest of the story. I'm just not going to worry about it and let the story do what it must.

A neighbor down the block has a pit bull that appears to think of every creature it meets as food man.

It worked out well for everyone except the dog owner, who now has very irregular-shaped buttocks.

So, when all the dog does is hump your leg...What's that dog call you?

...and here is the right answer for all of your questions, right there in your own post.

For me, if it is going well the characters almost do it all themselves, I just have to keep up.
