Poll: One Story or Parts

Okay.. I have a story about a student that becomes the slave of her principal, but it's not finished. What I have done could be released as a story, and I could finish it in folling stories, or I could wait until I finish the whole thing to post it. What should I do?

If you check the archives there are several threads on this. There are pros and cons to posting all at once and waiting between them. If you have all the story written, you may want to space out the chapters, give readers 3-5 days between them. This way, they can anticipate. Or, you may want them to be able to read it more like a book, one chapter after another till the ending. Both ways can work. I often wonder if after 1 or 2 chapters of a series storyline, will the readers get bored (or maybe not bored but ready for something different) and instead of reading the entire story, they will move on and never come back.

On the other hand, if you do not have all your chapters finished, you might want to go ahead and begin posting what you have. The only drawback I see to this is finishing the story. It's easy to be excited and have lots of chapter ideas. Writing them in a timely fashion though is hard. (I know about this one!)

If your story depends on the reader reading each chapter to understand the next chapter, you will need to be sure that the entire thing is finished first. If you can post one chapter and the next chapter is just using the same characters but the action in the story doesn't depend on what happened previously, then you can post them at different times. In other words, finish that story, post it, then start another chapter with a different story, same characters.

It's really your call. Either way works for some and not for others. Good luck!

Whether you post it as several chapters or as one single story, finish it first.

I absolutely hate it when an author posts "my great masterpiece Ch 1" and then leaves for parts unknown without ever posting more.

I always enjoy reading a story that has been posted in parts, rather than one lump sum. It's a way to draw the reader in, and make them beg for more.
