But...but...what about "Whose line is it, anyway"?

With those choices, I'm torn between SNL and In Living Color....I'll have to think more and get back to you.

I voted for SNL , but there are some other shows that deserve mention too ,SCTV (John Candy Rick Moranis Catherine O'Hara etc) Carol Burnett(Tim conway & Harvey Korman were hilarious)

Er...It's a tie between Kids in the Hall and SNL on a good night.

Kids always makes me laugh. SNL just has more history of making me laugh.

*Edit..Oh yeah I loved SCTV! Too funny. So many genuises on one show.

Whose line is it anyway?..........Is the best by far......after that SNL I guess, I miss the good ole days of SNL..........:(

No If's and's or but's. It's gotta be SNL! Why? How can you go wrong with something older than me? :D

I fucked up, I admit it.

I forgot Monty Python and SCTV.

And other.

All apologies.

Whose Line is it Anyway? isn't sketch comedy, it's improv. There's a difference.

I vote for The Kids in the Hall. SNL used to be good, but it's just pathetic anymore.

You really needed the Other choice, because you're not old enough to remember the absolute funniest and grandfather of all sketch comedy shows

Your Show of Shows staring Sid Ceasar.

Of course the original Laugh-In with Rowan and MArtin contributed a good bit to the genre as well.

Both were much funnier than anything on TV in the last two decades.

SCTV is classic.. that's where my vote goes!

I know Who's Line Is It Anyway isn't sketch comedy.. but it is still worth mentioning since it's funnier than half the shows listed.

"SNL's 25 year anniversary. Yes, we are here to celebrate 25 years of comedy. 5 of it good." Chris Rock

"There's a lot of truth that's said in jest." Eminem

SNL can be so dull at times it's ridiculous. It's horrifically inconsistent and gets by on star power and historic popularity than actual comedy.

In Living Color was sidesplitting at times. Better characters, sketches, and all that on a lower budget.

Funniest in my opinion...

hmm

hehe I like Conan O' Brien show.....its a late night show but it has some damn funny sketches like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

Parallels and such.....

SNL = Kids In The Hall
MAD TV = Living Color

Timeless Originals;
SCTV
Red Skelton
Carol Burnett
Laugh-In

*I voted for Living Color.
The raw Wayan Brothers, Tommy Davidson, and Jim Carrey are just toooo hilarious! :D :D :D :D

I agree on the other choice. I never saw Your Show of Shows when it was on, but agree that Sid and Imogene were comic geniuses. I never thought Laugh-in was that funny though. Entertaining and humorous, but rarely side-splitting.

Side-splittingly funny, for my money, was the trio of Carol Burnett, Harvey Kormann and Tim Conway.

Remember Mrs. Wiggins?

Carol & Co. were indeed in many ways superior to any of the modern "comedy" shows.

Another show that, while not purely "sketch comedy," certainly helped define what a comdeic sketch should be was Uncle Miltie's Texaco Hour. (That's Milton Berle for you young' uns.)

The Smother's Brothers show was another that brought sketch comedy to a new level by making it timely and political as well as very funny.

PS: Let us not forget that some of the funniest comedy series started as sketches on other shows -- The Honeymooners, the Simpsons, Mama's Family, etc. (Extra points if you can name the shows they came from.)
