That's politics in general, btw, not party politics.

I'm talking about micro-politics, the type that goes on in all groups of people, be that friends, message board posters, gamers, board rooms, the office, and many other places.

It all does my head in!!!

I try to stay out of it, but now and again I get sucked in. I attempt to make up my own mind about things and say whatever I want to say, whenever I want to say it. Everyone should!

Freedom of speech!

Why can't somebody state their personal annoyance at someone and then be left alone and be respected for that view? Why does it have to be interpreted as a statement to all - a rallying call, if you like? Why can't it be seen for what it is: the view of one person, who should be allowed to have thier own, individual view and opinion.

Most people read way too much into the motivations of others.

We all have our own minds. Use them!

Perhaps it's election fever. Who knows!?

Lou, I left a big career in the corporate world--walked away from it--because I couldn't stand the daily backstabbing anymore. I felt like I was transported to Byzantium every time I walked into the building. That culture seems--to me--to encourage the most meanspirited behavior. And it has a ripple effect. I'm all for freedom of speech, but some people need to censor their attitudes before they open their mouth, you know?

And now I am possession poorer, but soul happier.

Yep, I know.

I have been guilty of opening my mouth before my brain is in gear many times, I just hope this thread isn't one instance of that. ;)

I, too, left that world behind a few years ago. Wouldn't go back, no thank you!

Lou,

Politics is the art of the possible: the art of making compromises that not all can agree with but are better than conflict.

Unfortunately for your mood in your post it is practised universally.

If everyone said what they really think there might be some real bloody noses in every interaction between people. Some things are better left unsaid; some things are better after thinking before speaking; some things need to be said but HOW they are said affects the outcome.

I get angry about many little things. If I want to change things I have to be very careful how I express my anger and who I express it to. The right way can get allies. The wrong way makes enemies of potential supporters.

Please, Lou, think before saying something you might regret and perhaps don't really mean.

Og (who isn't always as diplomatic as he pretends to be)

Not at all. I'm not in this forum much, but I've seen only kindness and sensitivity from you.

I laugh now when I think there was a time when I thought nothing of spending 20+ USD for a bottle of nail polish. Is that what I was caught in that rat race for?

Where I work the politicking gets pretty bad at times. I try to stay out of it...but our department is small, and eventually their 'games' involve me like it or not.

I usually just try to stay on that proverbial 'higher ground' but it is difficult at times too.

I like to take people as they come at me...I was once accused ot being racist at a different job I had. I called a guy an 'asshole' and since he was of a minority race, my supervisor took me up the hill to HR. Once there, the HR director asked questions. Finally she questioned me.

"Are you racist Mr. ______?"

"Yes, I am."

"WHAT?"

"Yeah...I hate asshole's. They really suck."

The end of the meeting took place a few seconds later as she knew that I had a PERSONAL problem with AN INDIVIDUAL, not a racial problem.

Long story...but what caused it all was that particular INDIVIDUAL (asshole) had been playing his little politicking games and burned three people who were not deserving of the punishment they got due to his...'game'.

One of my major flaws, but I do try.

Thanks for your thoughts, Og, you make a lot of sense, as usual.

So if I call you an ignorant fucking bitch, that doesn't make my point all the more valid? DAMN!

I don't get it either

Nope, but leave out the word "ignorant" and we might get somewhere. ;)

Thank you! That's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of.

I think it's because we're still apes in large part.

Apes organize themselves into troops.

Through dominance rituals some make themselves into alphas of the troop.

The rest of us spend our time doing what the alphas say… and conspiring to fuck the alphas out of their position so we can become alphas.

Me? I just try to get the fucking work done.
