The state Senate race in the Auburn area, which unofficially had a difference of one vote between the candidates out of almost 17,000 votes cast, has been declared a tie by the Alabama Republican Party.
According to state law, the tie will be broken “by lot” – which essentially will determine the state senator from District 27 by chance.
“It could be a roll of a dice, high card, or rock-paper-scissors,” Merrill said. “The sheriff is the one responsible for flipping the coin.” Merrill confirmed that tiebreaking scenario to AL.com Saturday night.
