Politics for imbeciles

I've had enough. The sheer ignorance and stupidity performed on this board in the name of serious political debate has got to stop. There is no point trying to enforce my particular values on anyone else so I won't bother. What I will do is try and explain to those that only read newspapers with comics inside what the political spectrum looks like - in simple terms:

*Left*

Communism
-
Socialism
-
Centre (Democrats / Liberals)
-
Conservatism (Republicans)
-
Fascism

*Right*

Personally, I lay in a place between Socialism and Centre called Social Democracy (that's only a little bit to the left of Al Gore's democrats.)

So to call me a communist or to refer to certain parties or countries as communist makes about as much sense as me saying that Americans are fascists.

Hope that clears up a few common misconceptions.

Just one thing though...you have communism (and socialism) listed as political ideas...

correct me if I am wrong...I am just a truckdriver albeit 99% of the truckdrivers in this country are so far to the right that it makes Unclebill look like a centrist.

Isn't communism in it's purist definition just an economic system...China and the former Soviet Union I think are better described as Dictatorial or Authoritarian as far as politics goes..

Would it be possible to have a democracy in a communist type economy?

I think you're right there Thumper. Communism is an economic system. The political system that it is born from is Marxism or dominant ideology.

I was trying to keep the table as simple as possible - you know what people are like!
