They just said on the news that the primie minister of Sweden, Göran Persson, has been in a meeting with Dubya, whom he calls "frank and friendly", and also describes him as a personal friend.

Now, as if it wasn't bad enough that the man isn't ashamed of calling Bush a friend in front of the TV cameras, he also performed a veritable ass-licking of Bush, right there, in the presence of the journalists:

When Persson asked Bush what would happen to the Swede who's being held prisoner at the prison camp at Guantanamo, who has been imprisoned for 2 years without even being charged with anything; Bush simply said that "we're working on it" - and Persson commended him on bring so direct, frank, and honest!

It's obvious.

Persson is so eager to rub elbows with the leader of USA, that he bends over backwards and licks the man's ass!
No wonder Bush gets away with everything - no-one questions his actions!

Oh, it is a bad day to be a Swede... *hangs head in shame*

Can't look at it that way, Flicka. Not your fault. Just the same way that it's not my fault our fickle leader is as big of a waste of space as he is.

Sorry sweetie. At least in your country's case it's not 150,000 men away from home and wondering when, how and if they'll ever get home.

Any way you slice it, it's the pits.

~lucky :(

On the other part of the news, 12 generals of the Swedish army wants to get bigger funds to build up the Swedish army, "to be able to help and aid in crisis situations over the world".

That sounds promising, Svenska.

The Portuguese navy is going to spend approximately 770 million euros (not considering operational and maintenance costs) in buying three new military submarines to help NATO with its program for the creation of a permanent fleet.

NATO's response was: "Portugal has little money and the little they have will be wasted on the buy of submarines, having asked us to justify this option [before the Portuguese public opinion]. We won't do it."

We're still buying the subs.

Yeah, let's invest millions of our economy for things we won't get to enjoy.

Where ya going to keep em?

The sea, I suppose. Personally, I like to keep my subs chained to the wall in the basement, but I doubt that suits navy regulations

The question then becomes, who's selling the subs? And who else stands to gain?

These sort of things are always the subject of very tightly scrutinised public contests, and the winner was GSC (German Submarine Consortium), which joins the Nordseewerke GmbH, from Emden, and the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG, from Kiel, world leaders in non-nuclear subs. Hardly think losing a 770 millions contract would do much harm to them...

No, but losing the commission could make a dent in someone's retirement fund.

:D

Pardon me; I'm projecting Halliburton values onto your country. It's a reflex.

:D it's quite all right. Perfectly understandable ;)

If one of the subs has a luxury apartment called "The Cheney/Halliburton Suite" look out, okay? He'll be rich enough in kickbacks to buy a country when he leaves office, and yours is very pretty, from what I've heard.

That thing about the basement - Don't your subs rust down there?

Someone is selling subs? Where? My last sub up and left. She said I was too strict.

Speaking of chined to the wall in the basement, any chance there's some free wall space?
