Political Humor

Because of 9/11
Because Rush Limbaugh said so
Because, well, just because.

Durned Hypocrites.

I'm still waiting for Jay Leno to stop telling the same joke every night.

The Republicans said the same thing when Clinton was in office. "You bar-b-qued Reagan and Bush. It's the same thing." Left, right, it's the same.

What changes is timing. No one poked fun at Reagan when he was shot, or Bush during the Gulf War (and by no one I'm talking about a general zeitgeist, not Jay Leno or Howard Stern or Rush Limbaugh's daily comedy news).

Time magazine is coming out with an article about George W. Bush's "weird little Presidency" and will say that no one benefitted more from Sept 11 than George Bush, which is a crass thing to say, but probably accurate.

Timing is everything.

Yep, there was a benefit to his presidency. But one can say the same regarding Jefferson, Lincoln, Roosevelt, and others that have held the presidency during a crisis. Beside timing it's also a matter of what the basis of their logic is.

As far as the humor goes. It's natural. Making fun of someone you don't care for is always easier than making fun of someone you do care for. I loved the SNL skits of the presidents. Dana Carvey did a great Bush the first. Equal opportunity humor is funny. When it becomes one-sided and sarcastic it's no longer so amusing. I'm no fan of Clinton, but I've seen some 'jokes' about Clinton that even I thought were in poor taste and disingenuous.

A Carp's eye view...

The difference as I see it is that as a Democrat, I listened and laughed along with the jokes about Bill, who I think was a darned good President, if morally bankrupt. On the other hand, dare to make a joke about Bush, and be accused of being un-American, and told to move out of the country. Bill, I was happy to have as President, but wouldn't have wanted him dating my daughter. Bush I don't want as President, or dating my daughter. The man friightens me. Deeply.

lavender,

If someone made jokes about Clinton then they should be content to listen while jokes are made about Bush. Hell, I didn't make jokes about Clinton, but I still don't mind jokes made about Bush (and I'm among his biggest fans.)

However, there is a difference between jokes and fabrications that are told as truth. I think you may be referring to the thread this afternoon about "missing Clinton". On that thread, I pointed out (along with a couple of others) that much of what is reported as "Bushisms" aren't actually what they are being reported to be.

On another thread, when others were making jokes about Jenna Bush, I didn't say a word. But when Spinaroonie simply called her a "bitch," I gently called him to task for it.

I do not see the double standard. I think you are mistaken in your observation. Just as many people cried foul at the Clinton jokes as are crying foul now about Bush jokes.

just my opinions.

Didn't you see my response? I didn't give you that information because it would pull back the curtain and make mainstream some info I'd rather keep to myself.

Spin, I didn't see your reply until I came back to the computer a little while ago. You have a right to keep private things private.

But just a thought. With your left leaning political bent, I would imagine Jenna might not like you, even if you are built like Adonis.

;)

best political satire in the country and best of all they don't take sides...they go after everyone equally :)

I have a CD by the Capital Steps titled "Unzippin' my do-da" (tune of Zippity do-da). I guess I don't have to tell you who that was about.

She also didn't want her daddy to run. (her sis falls in the same book)

However, her best friends agree: Bitch. :D

No matter what you think of George Bush (I think he is just OK..but has rised to occassion of 9/11) Bill Clinton is a joke and quite frankly a disgrace as a President. He lied to the American public, lied under oath and is just a total bullshitter. He deserves no respect. Its that simple.

Bush is a Casper Milquetoast dweeb. Clinton was/is/what is was/ a sleazy, conniving, fraud who got caught waving his wee-wee, then lied about it.

Who do you think is a better source of material? I never cried foul over Bush jokes. I haven't seen any Bush jokes.

But he lied about sex. That exempted him.
