I took my dogs for a long walk down by the river yesterday....They must have gotte into some posion Ivy....to make a short story shorter4...I woke up this morning and I could not open my eyes this morning...theyare swollen shut...I have it between my toes and fingers...in my ears!....my stomache and a cuople other places......Sitting here trying not to itch..............

Colloidal oatmeal.....the only way to go.

You probably rubbed your eyes after getting the plant oil on your skin...thus the swelling.

I guess I shouldn't bother saying that I'm not affected by poison ivy, oak or summack. Or that I walked right into it last week, and nothing...

rub vinegar on it (obviously not in your eyes) it drys it out and will get rid of it quickly. Be warned though, it's gonna sting a bit..

Anything is better than itchng....pain is something I can deal with...

that weird pinkish lotion

only way to go...atleast not around your eyes....unless you are VERY careful....Oatmeal helps too! Good Luck

Guess I have to go to the store...put a pillow case over my head like the elephant man (actually thats one of my favorite movies)...So much for going out tonight.....

please do not pay attention to the fact that i can't spell any of the product names

well..actually..

take some benadryl..soak in an oatmeal bath..rub some of that calomine lotion on it..and you should start feeling better...

(can you tell..this has happened to me before)

Everything they said plus:

Wash all your clothes, shoes and sheets with hot water to get rid of the oil from the plant that causes the rash.

Better wash the dogs, too.

Try not to ssssssssscratch. Wear mittens.

Guess I got to stock up at the drugstore......Maybe a bike ride in the wind will help.......

Zanfel

You might want to try this. I agree with all the previous advice, but those things are designed to ease the itching, not to remove the inflammatory oils from your skin. Although I haven't tried this stuff myself, I have talked to people who have and it's supposed to be super.

Also, tea tree oil is very nice for numbing the itch and drying the ooze out.

Good luck....

The real problem he has is he probably went to pee.

And has a swelling that is unwelcome this time anyway.

First of all, let me say ... if your eyes are swollen shut, you need to get to a doctor immediately.

I'm allergic to poison ivy (as it sounds you might be, also). A doctor will prescribe a 21 pill pack of prednisone (steroid) and some cortisone cream. The relief will take a day or two.

A natural antidote to poison ivy is a plant called jewelweed. Here is a place where you can buy some soap and tincture made from it:

That will work when you (or the dogs) come into contact with it ... but, since you have it so bad, you need to get medical help quickly.

Good luck ... I had the same problem a week ago.

It's times like these that make me grateful for being a suburban girl.

Take care, sufisaint.

I think the idea of going to the doc. is a good one. For future exposures, there is a product called Ivy Block, available just about anywhere to use as a preventative. Hope this helps!!:)
