Okay, I'm not sure if this has been done before, but I'm curious to see the results. Over in the AH we have two writing exercises that have long since died out (I just bumped them in the hopes for the newer people to add their thoughts)

Anyways, one is to describe a face and one is to describe a sun rise/set. I would LOVE to see either of the same subjects described with poetry. I guess you could call it a "Same Content Challenge"... heh. I'll try mine soon, most likely going to try a sunrise.

Thank you WSO, I look forward to the result :)

Reflections on an Antiguan sunset

Sundowner

Have not you ever seen
the sea turn red wine plum
and all the splashing colors run
when with a flash of green
the spinning earth does come
and swallows up the liquid sun.

All nature holds collective breath
of silent lemon-gold, high polished brass
washed copper coin.

Then wood dove calls the color orange
and dusk turns down star speckled bed
rose-carmethene limned
fizzy pillow pink
grape-purpled coverlet
tangerine and crimson sheets.

Rubescent clouds on damask feet
rush towards the darkling evening bight
to kiss and greet
the starlit night
homeward tolling fluffy sheep
they stop at earth-sky edge to bleat
and lick the sultry rim of sleep.

Jade World

Amethyst streaks strike forth
as citrine fingers caress
azure shores.
Rose quartz blush tinges
obsidian mountains where
ebon raven soars.
Ruby orb of radiant life
carnelian eye drooping
over granite earth.
Onyx cloak shining
with shattered diamond
sparkles of mirth.

You were so fleeting with your movement
from my sight that for that single instant,
when I saw you clearly, you were a thief,
come with the night, to steal my breath.

I have only rarely seen the shapes of clouds
outlined in dusky purple and watched
as the evening artist gilded each surface,
blowing wispy leaf across the stratosphere.

Apollo, I've heard the promise of your return
sung on the lips of Venus as she serenades
you from the day, don't let the notes fade
away too long before your smile returns.

hmm fiddling about...

Sunset

Gaze along the lullaby of twilight
Where day is culled to feast upon the night.
Come watch sun fingers stretch across the sky
And wave the pallid day a last goodbye.

Come watch the owl-light slide across heaven
As coral stretches and the day is driven.
A moment's whisper, full dusk falls so quick
Velvet covers all, like blackout fabric.

okay it's sucky, but i'm still fiddling with it.

Laughter's brush passed over
and left the marks of light-
hearted strokes upon your brow
while worry's frown fell closer to your lips
pursed in puckered kisses as sips
of life pinched colour into your cheeks.

Drink deeply of experience
and let the flavour of the nectar
tint rose-coloured glasses
over your somber eyes.

Raise the corners of your mouth
and part your lips that I might see
a smile to tempt my own
out of my heart.

The blush of passion raises
up an elegant neck, underscoring
the square jaw that sometimes
clenches when wrongs assail
the right. Relax now, in the night,
let slumber smooth the day away.

Morning's kiss will wake a gentler
countenance and brighten
shadowed corners with a newborn smile.

Swell of light cresting
void of night.
Exhilaration of flaxen
dawn spilling fluid
over world rim.
Tip of claret tongue
swirling solar eddy as
garnet interlude
calls home
father Sol's
children
once more.

Sunset Sonata

Crimson canvas standing dark
amid black and blue.
Sailing song of tempered lark
adding yellow hue.
Painted scales listing brush
filling pink tip.
Orange note sounding hush
rushes golden slip.
Concerto trace of claret wine
awash in new shades.
Tinted color loses shine
symphony fades.
