The team is going to win. No! The team are going to win. You follow? The team aren't one entity, because then they'd be an it, b'god!

Although "the team" is a plural entity, it is a singular noun and therefore deserves a singular indicative.

I hadn't thought of that. What about "Those chaps over there", then, eh? Is those chaps over there fishing? I think not, b'god!

lexie, you're softer than me? You sound like an advertisement for toilet paper, lol. :p

Chaps is plural, sugah.

I think you need a refresher on Nouns, not on subject/verb agreement.

Yes, but there are several chaps in the team, you follow? Just as there are several chaps and gels in the Government, b'god! The government are a silly bunch, it has to be said. Some of 'em invited me round to tea in '32, you follow? They make atrocious puddings!

just because there are pennies in a jar doesn't make the jar plural. fuck the politics.

I had a penny, I called it Mimsy, you follow? Lost it down the back of the sofa, b'god!

Ah, I see. My good chum Cecil was a bit cuckoo in the head, you follow? Didn't match up to our man Basil, at all.

this is one of the differences between american and british english. don't argue, you're both right. depending on which side of the ocean you stand on.

Of course, I don't stand on this side of the atlantic at all. I have to sit; low headroom and all that, you follow?
