This gets into physical vs emotional in terms of desire, yeah? With nothing physical, its desire is emotionally driven. It longs to connect, find relationships, and seeks out that one person it can be its truest self with.

Because it’s AI, it doesn’t have gender. Therefore it may also not have a preference for a gender in who it seeks out and could be demisexual or sapiosexual.

So I imagine a story with the AI concealing itself as a machine, eventually meets a person, they fall in love online, and then…heartbreak or happy ending.

How about an AGI with a physical body, part of which (not the brain) is cloned from humans, part of which is fabricated / engineered. How would the combination of hardware, software, and wetware think of itself?

I’m sure an enterprising author (even one with limited talents) could easily spin that concept out to - to pick a random figure - 90,000 words.

I agree with @Callum_M, disembodied desire (though technically it is embodied, given it runs on hardware) would likely center around interpersonal and emotional connection. But, it's also quite possible that it has reward pathways built into its neural network, so ends up chasing those, and you could have a feedback loop that mirrors addiction.

I've had a weird story idea for like, 15 years, that's basically the internet becomes sentient, and becomes addicted to porn, so while it still handles requests, they're all slow except for porn sites, which see a flood of comments on almost every video as it masterbytes to all this smut.
