My husband has had a stroke. Initial diagnosis is TIA, but they admitted him to the hospital and are running further tests in the morning. He has no use of his right arm and his entire right side is numb, however, he can still walk. He has had no impairment of his mental faculties. That's all I know at this point.

He has also committed to a DNR, which does not make me happy, but I understand his choice. I just want him back I don't care if I had to wipe his ass for him the rest of his life. :(

He is my everything.

Oh no...I'm sending good thoughts to you and your husband tonight. :rose::rose::rose:

Hey Sweets,

A T.I.A. is a good thing. It's a warning sign to take things easy.

Let's hope that's what it was. (Usually they can tell fairly quickly.)

As for the D.N.R. that is a purely prsonal decision and one that I agree with (Both my wife and I have Living Wills and D.N.R.'s on record. Then again we are in the medical field.)

Have faith and give him the support he needs, I know it isn't easy for you.

I'm so sorry, Minxie...You and your husband are in my thoughts and I wish you well...he may regain some mobility in his right side with therapy. Hang tough. :rose::kiss::heart:

Take care. Try not to worry terribly much.
Breathe deep. Angels on the way to help you during this time.:rose::rose::rose:

Oh, hon. I'm so sorry. :rose:

From the short time we all spent together in Chicago, I quickly grew to admire his wit and his obvious love for you.

Love and strength to you both.

:rose:

Thanks, all. This is the first night I've spent without him. :(

That's what I've been reading about the TIAs. But it makes me feel better to hear you say it. I had to make him go to the VA this morning, but I thank God I knew enough to insist. They are running an echocardiogram and whatever it is called when they ultrasound the carotid arteries.

The nurse said they didn't think the clot was in his brain. (haven't heard from the doc, but we all know the nurses usually know more about what is going on anyway, lol.) Awesome nursing staff. Very friendly, very helpful, very caring.

My objection to the DNR is purely selfish, and I know it. I support him, and I will follow through on it, even if I don't like the thought of losing him. Honestly, I have one too. It's just tough to think about.

You are both in my prayers.

I'm a disabled RN. If you ever need any "translation to real language" from doctor-speak, I'd be happy to help.

Thank you everyone!:kiss::heart:

The irony in all of this is, the night before we had made the decision to quit smoking. His reasoning was to save MY life. I had a mini stroke over the summer (no I haven't seen a doctor, but I have plans to remedy that as soon as possible), and other issues going on.

So, the good things that will come of this:
-Quit smoking
-I'll go to the doctor
-He'll find out what the problem is with his stomach that's been plaguing him for years

You are both in my prayers.

My prayers are with you. I had a stroke many moons ago and my right side was numb. The doc told me that the rest of my brain would compensate for the loss. He was correct. Just takes a little time. The best goes to you and hubby.
