Playing while at work.

What's your take on this? I wouldn't do it. Reason being, when I was working, I was there to work! Exceptions would be coffee breaks and lunch hour. And I suppose the head honcho could get away with it. But a worker bee? They are there to work, IMO.

What do you say? Okay? Not okay? Do you do it or have you done it?

as long as the work gets done. my last job, i kept fun things to do when i completed my projects and didn't have a new one. i could have pretended to work on something all day that took me 15 minutes, but i prefer to just get things done and not draw them out. that makes me efficient. on days where i had a full day's worth of work, i worked all day with no play. granted that work could have been billed by someone else as two weeks worth of work. the boss had no problem if they saw me doing something fun, because it meant i had completed everything that had already assigned to me. also, offices need to have some sort of play. be it a basketball hoop or something else to blow off steam. it helps the mind relax, and creates more productive employees.

I did do a lot of exercises when I worked at the golf course but... There wasn't much work to do with that job. I'd check in the golfers then wait for the shift change. I might sell an occasional bucket of range balls or some other item or take a few tee times. We actually sold so little that things rarely got messed up. We rarely got new stock and there is only so much dusting and cleaning you can do.

We were forbidden to do anything that wasn't golf related. We could watch the Golf Channel, read books or magazine on golf. Or exercise. As in the types of exercise that a golfer might do.

Back in the good old days the 90’s the work environment wasn’t like it is today. We would work hard and get our work done then play hard as well. Only after the work was done. In today’s work environment play is not only expected but encouraged. One of our latest buildings has a decompression room in it so the staff can clear their minds whenever they feel the need. And oh this room has big screen TVs Xbox bean bag chairs etc. I was so born to early

I need a definition of playing. Are you talking about actual activities with coworkers or playing on lit?

For me, I don’t find my honey where I make up my money. Pretty easy to do since most of the people I work with are scattered and a tri-state region. But there are times I have popped on lit when IT has hijacked my computer, which is happening a lot lately since it’s new and it seems every day there is a new issue I have with it. I also get stuck on a lot of conference calls about the company which often devolve into comparison arguments about who has the heavier caseload or fastest moving Dockit or worst technology. I find myself logging on to let then because it’s all the same crap I’ve heard before and I don’t participate in the one upping. I always do it from my phone though.
