Thanks NAUTY - hadn't used a redhead in a while and thought Ms. Reagan / Valentine would garner a bit of attention. I like that particular shot - the just before-but-not-quite-yet pic, if you will.

I don't want winter either .... had to change a car battery out side in this cold and an hour and a half later my toes are still frozen ... :(

I'm just contemplating the meaning of life. ;) :D It's a quiet evening. I did have a couple more stories pop up today, and two more have been submitted.
 
Congrats on the submissions RED - you are one of the few authors I know out here whose output has exceeded my own and the quality of your work remains superb.

I am not counting the 1000+ I wrote for my publishers, btw - which will be 1250 by next year, if we ever get the furshlugginer contract signed.

BTW, life is a bowl of tuna salad.

Thanks Brett, though I still struggle with grammar issues, no matter how often I read and re-read what I write, but I have little patience for sharing work with editors, but I know I should and will most likely do so in the near future.
 
I don't like using editors either RED - although I did in the beginning. I think in my case it is a trust issue combined with the fact I don't want people seeing the work until it's done, no matter who they are.

Exactly RED - I am supposed to have editors with the company I work for and found a major glitch in one of my newest books. As I think it likely slipped through via a computer error (on their end) I am not overly concerned, but man, did it stand out.

Interesting. I have had stories rejected for "grammar and spelling issues".

I knew there was nothing wrong with the grammar, for my writing had to be absolutely correct in my working life as a para-legal.

Spelling? No way was that wrong.... Actually, it was, because the editor in question didn't like that I had written in British-English. My (US-based) collaborator ran it through her spell-check, made the "necessary" changes, and surprise, surprise........... (No mention of grammar, either).

Only twice in my time on LIT has a story been rejected - only one time for grammar and when I switched to American, it was fine. Oddly, I've seen numerous stories with "Brit grammar" - I think at times the decisions are arbitrary.

The other time was over issues that I was able to clear up with the powers-that-be and then the story was accepted.

Yes, Brett, it did seem that the decision was arbitary, and "Brit-English" does seem to be widely accepted; perhaps I caught a new editor on a bad day! I do have to say, though, that that experience did deter me from applying as a volunteer editor
 
I've had 3 rejections.

The first was the second story I'd ever submitted to Lit., it was rejected because I had not put spacing between the dialogue when characters were switching out who was talking. Edited and resubmitted, all went well.

Another was rejected because of the violence. It was my first non-consent/reluctance, and to me non-consent is rape - no means no - but the story was violent and it was an obvious rape, so I edited it making it seem mentally like the character didn't want it to happen, but physically that she did. It was accepted.

The third time - I can't recall the reasons, but I know I fixed the issue, resubmitted and all was well.
 
There was actually a 4th rejection for me, I posted an essay (I'd already posted one previously) discussing my writing and offering readers a way to send me suggestions. It was a number of years ago - I'd already published one such essay and it was approved, they never did explain to my satisfaction why the 2nd was rejected.

I rarely have issues these days.

I don't have issues either any more *knock on wood* but there may come a time when I do, and if so I'll fix it and then I'll resubmit.
 
I think with experience comes wisdom RED although with the BS I am going through with my publishers, not always.

Anyone besides me finding LIT really "sticky" lately? It loads like a turtle in 100 degree heat.

I don't mind a rejection for a valid reason; I do mind when the reasons are not valid. The grammar in mine was re-submitted unaltered, so (rhetorically) was why it acceptable the second time. I have already commented on the spelling.
Simples - no reason to bother any more!!
 
I have a valid reason to continue submitting - two actually.

It keeps me writing for the fun of it, flexes the muscle for the professional work.

I owe something to LIT and those who have been reading my work for a while. I still enjoy submitting and earning Red H's on occasion.
