I don't bathe my cat at all - she does a pretty good job of keeping herself clean, although she sheds constantly. In addition, I don't know of many people that do it either, since cats tend to be the cleanest animals around. Everytime I even mention it remotely, my friends ask me why on earth would I bathe her. She's an indoor cat so I see no need to do it myself
bathing cats isnt usually necessary, but i am allergic to their dander.... but my love of animals... i just cant see myself without some kind of pet

the last place i lived, we had 2 cats, and i suffered badly til we bathed them.... yes, granted they're clean animals, but the occasional bath would cut down on the dander

not fun for us (the humans) or the cats... but nobody suffered much harm from it

Cats and not pussy

My Vet gave me some great advice a few years ago, as I nearly lost Colonel to an illness. A couple of things.

Male Cats should not eat most store-bought dry foods, as it can cause "Crystals", which can really screw them up. If you ever see a little glittering in their litter, get them to a vet right away. Crystals can be fatal. Colonel was a few days away from death when I found out. It is like kidney stones in men, it blocks up their urinary tract. He's on a new diet of foods. called CDS.

If your cat is clean, you don't have to bathe them very often. However, once or twice a year, to remove excess oils or fur [ like when they are shedding everywhere ] is actually a good idea. Or if they get "Tats" in their fur.

Oh - as to Dial-Up. Some of the local phone companies are running ads to show that they've improved it. A lot of people have a separate line if they have it. My friend can be a real stick-in-the-mud, tonight is a prime example. Man, it is annoying.

this is my first cat, and my last one LOL I grew up around dogs but when I got my own place I wanted a pet, but I personally don't believe in having a dog in an apt. My cat has settled down considerably, but I just don't want to go through all that again. Too much for me LOL

My Cat

Colonel is my 2nd cat, I lost my first one to an illness.

He's my bud, he's very warm & friendly and when I nearly lost him 3 years ago - 2 months after my oldest friend passed - I was a wreck. It took me the better part of a year after he was healthy not to worry about him.

He's under my feet as I write this, actually.

Oh, I agree - an apartment isn't right for a dog, unless you are a very active person and can take him out a lot.

well even if you're an active person still isn't the right place for a dog. I have seen people have dobermans and labs in a 1bdr apt and they were more interested in going out to drink and just coming home to let the dog out to do its business, then they complain that the dog tore the house up - they don't realize they lacked giving it attention and its letting them know as such LOL

felines are wonderful....I had one as a kid, my mom owned her mother.....she insisted on giving birth in my mother's lap.....icky.....

but atleast I knew where she came from hehe

she lived till she was 19yo.....great cat....dumb as dirt....loved her

Dogs

I've seen cats act up - Colonel used to for a lot of years and so did his predecessor. Dogs arent't the only ones.

As I said, we are in general agreement. What I meant was if you go out a lot, exercise, run, and such - and take the dog with you - they are generally okay in an apartment, because they're getting lots of activity. It also depends on the type of apartment and how large. My old place was HUGE - a dog would have had plenty of room.

Moving on to non-doggie subjects ... ?

yeah always helps to know where they came from - got mine from the shelter....guess someone couldn't put up with her high kitten activity LOL

mine can be dumb as dirt, especially when she decides to dash out of a room and forgets there is a wall in the way ....smacked herself a few times, BUT she has learned not to put her paw in between the door and the door frame - never heard such a sound from a cat before, but she doesn't do it anymore LOL

I've lost several cats. The latest was last Christmas Eve morning. He was only 8-1/2 years old. :( He spent the Christmas of 1994 in the hospital getting blood transfusions.

The old neighbor's house and yard was flea infested. There was no way of keeping them out of the house and off the cats. They got regular baths to remove the fleas and the house a regular flea dusting. Remove the fleas and remove the eggs.

The one was a pain to wash, the one didn't mind besides he wasn't too happy about it. After moving out of that house, they haven't had a single flea and baths were few and far between.

One of our cats

The cat I had growing up, from 4 until I was 27 [ and had moved out ] was a Siamese, "Cheetie". It broke our heart when we lost her after nearly 20 years.

Not dumb though. Man, that was one smart animal. She figured out how to open most closets and if someone forgot to feed her, she'd open one, knock the box over ["Seanip" which I haven't seen in years ] and feed herself. Never more than she wanted though, she wasn't the scarfer this guy is.

She was a lovely animal. I cried for days when she was gone. That was a horrible Christmas, my Nana died two days later.

On to a cheerier story?

oh OUCH!! very funny.....mine used to take naps in the cross road of two streets...after she had already been hit by a car.....thank god we were in a VERY slow area for traffic.....

mine gets up on the bed when I'm watching TV before going to sleep and goes under the covers - sometimes i wonder if she was human before becoming a cat LOL when I first got her she decided she wanted to widen the hole in the felt on the underside of my box spring and sleep in there....she's a dork, a lovable dork at that

Dogs? People have these beasts?

Besides Korean food I see no personal use for the beasts. <<runs and hides>>

I've been sliced, diced and made into Julienne fries by the beasts. Surgery to have 2" of uretha repaired from a dog bite is no fun. You won't find any love for the beasts from me.

Fagin, what the hell were you trying to do to that dog that it had access to your urethra?

then you weren't raised around them appropriately. I know it's a delicasie<sp?> in the far east, but dogs should never be eaten....they're some of the smartest animals on earth.....but the one thing is that if you don't respect a dog, especially when it is eating, then you're only asking to get bitten or torn up by one - this isn't directed at you Fagin, just something that I think most people don't realize. I do remember my dad telling me whenever he was on TDY in Korea, there would be guard dogs missing from the kennels and they'd find them the next morning in the market right off base. Koreans just love to take the american dogs since they're bred specifically for the guard job they do

Back to dogs { sigh }

My parents & family had a dog after I had moved out. He was a Spaniel / Miniature Collie mix? Named "Schatzi" [ my sister named him ]

He was very nice, generally well-behaved, although he was uncomfortable around children.

I like both, but I do have a preference for cats.

Pussies.

I love that, mine does it in winter here......she's a chocolate point himalayan. I thought all that fur would keep her more warm, oh well..... but she makes my other cat look like a genious!!

mine I refer to as a 'mutt' cat....only cause she isn't a specific breed as she is a tortie....you can't find ANYTHING about torties in books other than it being a color....she's more a domestic long hair than anything, although when I got her someone had her hair cut, unless she just hadn't grown it fully out yet

More cat stuff

"Colonel" is a mutt, his predecessor was a Calico. She was weird, but I loved her anyway.

Our Siamese was a chocolate point.

turning around was a great reason to be torn up. nope.

all of the times I have been attacked it was from the rear and didn't know there was a dog there. no threat was invoked by me. no harrassment of a dog, no showing them fear because I didn't know they were there. the ones I did and came at me I was able to either get out of harms way, mace (and worse) or shoot them.

dogs are fine to eat. they don't taste that bad when prepared.

in my opinion, the only good dog is a dead dog.

Good night all!! :p
