I really like the black watch pattern. Sometimes I wish I were Scottish, just so I could wear a kilt on formal occasions.

if you were a brit, or even Canadian, then you'd be a subject of her maj, and all subjects of her maj are entitled to wear her tartan. royal stewart.

I think my McKay line makes me about a 1/16....maybe I'll use that as an alibi when I feel like showing off my legs.

I recently bought some pajamas with claims to be of nice Irish manufacture. I can see the fields of cotton twixt Irish peat bogs and highland peaks.
his one seams to be mimicking a Campbell plaid I think. I was admiring my handsome visage in the mirror (considering a selfie) and thought of my Scottish ancestor and realized I din't have any idea what Clan MacKay pranced about in.

Finally looked it up just now and realized I bought a shirt last week in green and blue plaid! It wasn't my thing but it was well made and in my size amongst slim (pun intended) pickings. I tried it on and was surprised that it seemd to flatter me.

The whole Kilt thing always looked rather macho to me. I wonder if it is seemingly more so to us because of its (now) gender-stereo type defiance? Like when you see a bouncer in a pink shirt, just DARING you to say something.

How much of a scotsman do you have to be to be scotsman enough? I'm supposedly 1/64.

I'm sure a quadroon and perhaps even an occtoroon would be in the clear... you and I would have to also be playing bagpipes to fit in.

plaid?

isn't that the past pluperfect of paid...

as in...

he had plaid her before she had blown him... i mean... come on! anyone could have looked at him... or could have known her desperate straits

Actually I meant Pergy. You. . .I think you might be one of those beings from the 5th dimension I've heard so much about.

Christ! I cant name all my Scottish Lines: Stuart, Alexander, Grant, Drummond, Allen, McDuff, Douglas etc and not one shit-eating Campbell!

You'd look just grand in a kilt, Mr. Attractive Toes. Regimental and barefoot, please.:D

Oops!

The reason that we all can wear Royal Stewart is because they were defeated by the Hanoverians that Her Majesty is descended from.

Making the Royal Stewart tartan available to everyone was a small insult to those who supported Bonnie Prince Charlie, who was a Royal Stuart.

Through my mother I am descended from a minor sept of the Frasers, but it is a social faux-pas to wear your mother's tartan.

Omg, we're family,or whanau, as we say here.

My mother was of the Fraser Clan.

Btw, Blackwatch isn't a clan tartan - it's a regimental tartan?

All men should wear kilts.

It should be a universal law.

Every time I hear of a kilt, I think of Jamie.

Le sigh...

looking at the Stewart Tartan against my jammies I can see I lack green so mine is generic tartan, likely

I definately had a shirt in that plaid as a 'ute though. I thought it Campbell, but I likely confused it with Stewart. A faux pass my ex the everything irish/scotish/english-(in that order)-phile would never have made.

You have the same right to be Scottish as Elizabeth Warren has to be Cherokee...

Get your kilt on.

THAT is a low blow.

Accurate, funny...

...and a low blow.

How dare you insult the woman's desire to be one with the natives- and take their minority set-aside slot. She-who-dances-with-curriculum-vitae.

I know. Over in the other thread I am being admonished heartily for not understanding that Democrat Women deserve unthinking and unwavering collegial respect.

It is okay to bash Republican women because they are unthinking automatons.

Hello, cousin. :)

When Og was very young, the Black Watch were resident at the local barracks, having recently returned from the Korean War. I thought of them as I did the local policeman - big, scary and great to have around if you needed help.

I grew up on the floor around the pipers circle hanging on the threads kilt while dancing with the ghillies laced.
