Plagarism or The Joseph Biden Story

I just recently received a story to edit. Aside from the usual complaints from my spell checker concerning the words "fuck" and "cock," I noticed something rather odd.

I had the feeling that I'd read this thing before. I've only read in one or two other places online, so I can probably go back and check, it will just take a lot of time.

My question is, has anyone encountered this? What do you do?

If someone actually copied someone else's story and claimed it was theirs, it's really not a joking matter. I think it's illegal, and at the very least, a low, deceitful, shitty thing to do. It's stealing.

Maybe KillerMuffin isn't replying because she's disgusted with someone who would steal someone else's work and then shrug it off when they're caught.

<nods at Killer Muffin> I'm very glad to hear that! I hate to think--I mean REALLY HATE to think that someone could be passing my novella off as their own work, after I worked so damn hard on it. All 38,000 words are mine. They came out of MY head in the order I put them in.

Because it's posted here for free, anyone could copy and paste it somewhere else and claim it was theirs. (That's not a criticism about the site, whatsoever, by the way!)

I can't understand what possible benefit is in it for someone who KNOWS they stole a story. What kind of satisfaction can be had when they know they don't deserve it? I never have understood that.

JEAN CLAUDE IS SORREE!

Eh, dat is me, Jean Claude to say dat I sorry for making sum joke about dat pulverizing dat storee what belong to Wheespaire SecRET! I jes tot I make er laugh un peu an' try to liten da hole ting a little eh? But, I sorry Wheespaire! Dat a bad ting some asshole do, an' WomanLUVAIRE tink so too!

I find it really really hard to read your posts because of the "accent."

No, you misunderstood me. No one (to my knowledge) has stolen my work. I was just saying that if someone ever did, I would be furious.

There's really no way to lighten up the situation. You should be deeply ashamed. Stealing someone's writing isn't funny and never will be. I have little respect for you, thief.

An Update: I went through all the stories that I've read on other sites and didn't find one exactly like it. I did find several that were similar, so it is possible they were written by the same author. Either that or they just had ver similar writing styles.

It would highly upset to me read anyone's work and find out it had been plagarized. I'm just really glad to know that my niggling little feeling was wrong.

sans accent

You misunderstood me..........I didn't steal anyone's writing, never have, never would, don't need to!

Well, good thing you cleared that up, womanlover. I wasn't sure what the hell you were talking about as that Jean Claude personality. It seemed like you were trying to cover-up your plagarism with a witty, light-hearted post. Glad to hear you're not a scummy thief.

Heh heh! Did you read the follow up that Muffin gave me? I just couldn't resist carrying over the (LONG) thread we got going under THE STALKING.........she knows my humour from that, but not everyone does......but there have been alot of views!!

How did you do that? I cann't even find all the sites that I've visited for stories, much less the stories! Gads you're good gril!

I have a very good memory for the written word. Every writer has a "flavor" of some sort, a certain way they string a sentence together that is as unique to them as their fingerprints are. I don't remember every sentence of a story, but I do remember the feel of it, how it went, how it was written. For some writers that I like a lot I can usually tell the wrote it, even if I didn't see the author, but not always.

Some people can sniff a beer blindfolded and tell you who made it, where it was brewed and if they put too much something in it. I can do that, to an extent, with words.

As for that, I did a search a while ago that led me to three or four sites with stories that aren't pay sites, I simply put that search page in my favorites. I can store a whole lot of URLs in one page that way, especially since I don't visit them very much.

I like the quality here, additionally the bulletin board and chat room attract me.

Reading this thread reminded me.

Any time you put your work out in the public you take a chance some one will try to rip it off for there gain. I know how Karma works and know someone doing that will pay a very big price in the end. But...

I wrote a book of poems in Vietnam and kept it to myself and a very few friends for several decades because I was afraid some one would steal it. I lost. Because I was so afraid I didn't experience the joy sharing can bring. I even lost some of the poems forever. Now I post all over the place including my own sites. Some one can copy the words or imagse but they can't copy the soul of my works. I can write more. They can't

It's like Killer Muffin says she can tell a writer by reading their story sometimes because she knows "how" someone writes.

I do read stories and get ideas like all writers. What I write using an Idea I got from someone else's story is a totally different way of writing than the original story I read. I read Dracula ( A very long time ago ) and have seen endless Dracula movies but my Kimberly Goes Vamp series is not anything like Bram Stroker's!!

Thanks for this thead. I loved the feed back it has generated and the chance to open up about my Vietnam poems.

mY STORY WAS STOLEN TOO BUT BY A LITEROTICA MEMBER

My name is Mangala and I was rather surprised to find a story I had written posted integrally by a person with the id SplendidSpunk, who I know as Kevin.

Last year I exchanged some emails with him and showed him a story I had written for private use about my experiences, hence my surprise to find this here on Literotica without my knowledge or permission.

http://www.literotica.com/stories/sh....php?id=398281

While he changed the name from the main character from Mangala to Ashira, he forgot to edit the story and the name Mangala is still in one alinea in the text.

I have addressed this issue wtih him and have requested him to delete my story since I have never given him permission to publish this story. However, I have only received insults, therefore my only alternative is to inform the members that SPLENDIDSPUNK has violated my copy rights and is a cheat.

Kind regards,

Mangala
