Plagiarism Again...

"i do believe that if the author was one in the same they would have stepped forward by now!"

Not necessarily. Not everyone reads the bulletin boards. I didn't until a recent controversy going on here was brought to my attention. There are a lot of people coming to this site for various reasons - not everyone reads the bulletin boards. Perhaps someone might send an email to the author of the stories in question and ask them?

that people can't come up with their own damned ideas!

Happens all the time.

A huge portion of the public has always felt that "Art" is sort of like the air -- it's just there, and it's free, and you can do with it anything you like. That's why people who wouldn't think to shoplift a penny-candy will buy bootleg albums and movies. That's why theatre companies do published plays and musicals and don't feel any guilt about not paying royalties to the writers. That's why beginning comics use memorized Eddie Murphy routines in their club acts, and think that's how you get material. People assusme stealing art (even erotica) is just, ya know, "okay".

The motivation of the plagiarist puzzles me. What is the point of stealing something and then publishing it under a fake name for no money? What is s/he getting out of it?

No ego boost from seeing your name in print. No cash. It really seems like a complete waste of time to me.

This may not be a case of plagiarism. Web zine writing often pays poorly compared to traditional magazine work; the tradeoff is the wide audience and the "clips". Another perk is that I'm not often resticted to publishing my work on one site only.

Though I usually write non-erotica, and so use my real name, I can see that erotica writers might have to use different names for different sites (my names in different erotica sites are different because my first - and sometimes second - choices were taken!

Just a thought...

okay.....call me niave but what if the person who wrote it here , posted it there? Now I have done absolutly no research into this ...I don't even know who wrote the story in the first place. And since I have never sent in a story I don't know the "rules" such as not putting the same story on different sites.
Just a question.

Quit looking at me like I'm a pitiful puppy!

My dear I don't think the girl can be English Bob, Selias and Lace at the same time. For your info before posting this I contacted at least one of the authors, and he confirmed that he didn't post that story there. I am not that stupid to make accusation without checking before.

Yes it was and I got a blank response e-mail from them.. Too busy I guess..lol

I don't believe I called you stupid or anything even close....in fact I didn't even direct my post to YOU.dear.

I started the thread, I put up the info.. You questioned the veracity of it!! I simply replied to your question, comment, since I know the info, contacted the authors etc...

I got an email that the offending diary has been closed. I think people DO like to see their name in print, on tv, or on the net. It is an ego boost & for untalented people, the only way they can get attention. It is unbelievable what some people will do to get attention.

I got the following reply from open diaries:

Thanks for letting us know about this situation - the offending diary has been deleted. Although we cannot control where the content of our users' postings come from, please let us know anytime this happens. It will not be allowed on our site.

Thanks for your help,

It was fairly obvious to me that the diarist was not the author of all of the stories, because I recognises stories fron Literotica, and ASSTR.org originally posted under about a dozen different names.

As for reasons?

Ego is certainly a possibility, but there is also the possiblity that the person is collecting E-Mail addresses either to spam herself, or to sell to a spammer.

WH, could you explain your last sentence a little more? (Moron here!)

LOL, Grrrn38. Everyone's double posted at least once. It's not a crime.

Yeah! This is Whispersecret not getting on his case! It IS possible!

I believe what Weird Harold was refering to was a scam where someone puts up a fake personal ad (or diary, in this case) and when others respond to the ad, she(he?) will then use your e-mail address to spam you or sell it to a spammer.

If you want to send unasked E-Mail to someone, you need to get their address. One way to get that address is to set up a situation where people send you comments on something you posted. Of course actually writing something good enough to generate E-Mail is tough, so stealing stories from the web is an easy way to get people to reveal their e-mail address to you.

It doesn't even matter if they're writing to acuse you of plagiarism or think you wrote the story. All tha matters is that they send you an e-mail so you can get their address.

That's why I send complaints to the webmasters instead of chstising the perpetrator.

Weird Harold,

Sorry I didn't mean to step on your toes. I should have waited a little longer before posting, you explained it much better anyway.

Step away, my dear. Your answer was much more concise, and probably easier to understand.

Jaded Heart and WH: Thanks for the explanation. I always guarded my e-mail address, but wasn't sure why, now I know it's because I'm an idiot savant!
