Has anybody here sampled piss drinking? I always imagine it will taste like lemon juice, but that's probably because of its color.
Also what is its appeal to people here who have sampled piss drinking?

dr_mabeuse said:Okay, I aVoided this too, but urine isn't poisonous. There's a lot of stuff in urine, including urea, uric acid, billirubin (a substance produced in the liver that gives urine its yellow color), as well as all sorts of metabolic junk like ketone bodies from fat metabolism, cell casts, and other biotrash.
There's no ammonia in urine. Ammonia is very alkaline, alkaline enough to damage human tissue. The ammonia comes from bacteria who love urea and break it down into ammonia after it stands for a little while. Fish, who don't have to store urine in their bodies as mammals do, secrete their nitrogenous waste directly into the water as ammonia. Baby birds in eggs, who can't secrete anything, store their nitrogenous wastes in some other innocuous form (which I forget) until they can hatch, and then their metabolism changes. I believe that birds, like amphibians, secrete urine and feces in the same package and from the same orifice, but I'm not absolutely sure about that.
Unless you have an infection, urine is sterile: there's no live bacteria in it, so the old practice of weashing wounds in urine isn't as dumb as it sounds.
Neither uric acid nor urea is especially toxic when ingested at the doses you'd get from drinking a liter of urine. In fact, a former prime minister of India used to drink a cup of his own urine every morning as part of an Ayurvedic medicine regimen, and he lived to a ripe old age. The only problem with piss-drinking when done under life-and-death circumstances, is that urine has a very high salt content, so you'd might as well drink sea water. It has a dehydrating effect.
You might like to know that the amino acid Aspartine was first isolated from the urine of people who had eaten asparagus. I'm not sure whether this is the compound that gives asparagus-pee it's unique odor though. That seems to be a mercaptan or thiol ether, the same class of compounds that give skunks their odor. Mercaptans contain sulfur and are the stinkiest class of compounds known.

Congrats!

Wish I could have given you something nicer than a bunch of inmformation on urine though.
