Pirates! OOC

Need another player?

If you need another player, I'd love to jump in.
I'd love to play a character named Morgan. She's highly skilled in weapons and fighting. She was born on the seas and has lived on pirate ships her whole life. She doesn't really talk about her past or her self but will put her sword to good use...for a price.

Jump aboard

The more the merrier I say:) We need a good crew to take some decent prizes anyway, LOL, and the more girls we have aboard the happy my guy will be;)

What say the rest of you sea dogs:D Um, especially as its not even my thread, LOL, whoops:D

Hi there:)
99% of Pirate crews were males alone and having women on board was bad luck,

Well, that 1% included some rather phenomenal piratical icons. Take, for example, Grace O'Malley of Ireland. She struck fear in the hearts of Spanish, French, and English sailors in the mid to late 1500's. 'Grainne' was the scourge of the North Atlantic and Irish Sea, the 'Pirate Queen'.

She, in defiance of Gaelic and English law, took over her father's industry upon his death. Of course, piracy doesn't lend itself well to laws anyway. Grace had such strength and charisma, her men willingly and gladly lived under her banner.

After a princely sum of £500 was laid on her head, the British captains sailed out to hunt her down and collect. She met them on the sea and blasted them into submission.

Knowing that she would never know peace in this state, this woman, now fifty or so, did the one thing that made sense: she sailed for England and requested an audience with Queen Elizabeth.

The audience was granted and Elizabeth was so impressed by this woman that she offered her the title of Countessa. Grace O'Malley told the Queen of England that she, being her equal, had no right to offer any titles. No one knows the further details of their conversation, but upon leaving, the Pirate Queen was granted peace for the rest of her days. She died in 1603 and was laid to rest on Clare Island off the west coast of Ireland.

I visited Clare Island earlier this year. There are some pictures and such here, including some shots of Grace O'Malley's keep on the island.

Oh, and I'm in. I love pirates! Character to follow...

I give an eye patch up for the new recruits (though, it's not my thread either). ;)

I still need to get my girl drawn up here. . .*thinking*. . .be right back.

Hello....new to Lit, nice to meet you all

I would be interested in learning more about this Pirates thing. I used to RPG GURPS pirates and had a lot of fun...is this just a girl thing, or can guys participate too?

Thanks,

Roberto Carlos de la Pena

Roberto Carlos de la Pena

Roberto is the 3rd son of a Spanish Nobleman and his Portugese wife. Roberto, even at a young age
was showing the character of man that he would grow to be. Fiercly independent, and utterly loyal, he
is a true scion of the la Pena blood. Raven hair, tied in a ponytail frames his olive complexion and
his hazel green eyes. Knowing he would never inherit
his family's wealth, he joined the priesthood at age 11. As an acolyte, he learned the workings of the Church,
how to read and write in Latin, Spanish, Portegeuse, French and English. He demonstrated a knack for
languages and mathematics that seemed unnatural at times. As he matured, the Society of Jesus took
an interest in him, teaching him how to be observant and how to report important things back to the
Father Confessor of the Jesuit hierarchy. In this capacity, they sent him as tutor to the children of
a Spanish Nobleman, the King's own Vice Admiral Count Hector Ruiz Tomez.
The politics of the King's court gave him his first education into real politics, and he did not
care for it at all. There was a falseness about it all, a lack of honesty that offended the
naive young man, and was eventually responsible for his live of piracy.
Being the tutor of the children by day, and the Father Confessor's eyes and ears at the palace by night,
Roberto learned musketry, swordplay and heraldry, as well as cryptology and stealth. One night, he
overhears plans that will deliver the charts and maps of the East Indies and the Americas into the hands
of the French ambassador. After learing all he can, he dispatches a message quickly to the Father Confessor
requesting instructions on how to respond to what he knows. Does he dare tell the King? If so, how
will he denounce the Count Tomez to His Majesty? He waits, but a reply never comes....
The night before the exchange is to occur, someone attempts to kill young Roberto, and fails...but
leaves a scar from rt ear to the center of his chin. The assassin dies in a fall as Roberto throws him
down a flight of stairs. Stripping the body of weapons and coins, Roberto decides to act as Honor demands
of him. Packing a rucksack, he steals down to the Count's office and obtains the charts, maps and logs
that were going to be delivered to the French.
Alone, and on the run, Roberto knows he cannot survive alone, so he negotiates passage on a
ship as an able bodied seaman hoping to buy time until he figures out his next move.

What else do you need to know about him?

Thanks,
SB

Well honestly I can be a pretty flexible person. So far you are one of 3 women interested in this thread and it seems the three of us might want to chat about this some more.

2. Serenity due to her inteligence and creativity comes up with (at least in part) the idea of using a 'wing' as a kind of sail. (However she doesn't necassarily entirely have to come up with this on her own.)

What do you think?
I thought that the ancient Persians sailing around the Med and Atlantic used Triangular sails?

Any one know for sure? At least that way crynsanthum, your character doesnt have to invent the sail, just re-discover it.....my 0.02$ worth.

Allister O'Neill a.k.a. Alleycat O'Neill

Height: 5'11"
Weight: 160
Hair: Red braids interwoven with black twine hanging down past his shoulderblades
Eyes: bright brown, nearly amber
Build: Lean and thin, but well defined.

Allister was conceived by Kaite O'Neill and an unnamed patron of a Tortugan brothel. He cut his teeth in the company of whores and pirates. It's all he's ever known, but he's made good use of that knowledge.

His youth was spent gambling and hustling amongst pimps and cutthroats. In his early teens, he gained a penchant for larceny and extortion. It was during this era that he gained the Alleycat appellation. Upon reaching the age of seventeen, he strong-armed control of Saint Marie By The Sea, an old and well regarded house of ill repute at Terre Cassée on Tortuga.

For two years, he ran the brothel with the help of his mother. In his off hours, he would whittle lascivious statuettes out driftwood. Eventually, he gained a fair bit of skill at carpentry. Having attained an appreciable sea-worthy skill, Allister began looking to extend his fortunes by joining an able and profitable crew of buccaneers....

Sorry this got so damn long. . .but I was in a writing mood this evening. ;)

Cathan Kildare
Irish and Italian ancestry
5’ 7”
130 pounds, muscularly fit from working on the sea, but still looks all woman
Long, dark auburn hair, usually worn in two braids down her back.
Green eyes that get green-gray when she’s angry. Green-blue when excited.

Background:

Cathan Kildare was born of an Irish father and an Italian mother. Her father had yearned for a son to carry the name, but loved his daughter dearly. His mistake was often treating her as a male on their remote, coastal farm. Her father had grown up with training in the Church, but met Cathan's mother and quickly fell in love. Leaving his devotion to God and all things Christian, he moved her back to the homeland of his fathers.

Cathan's mother used to tell her of magical things, and gaze into the future with cards, dice, and other omens. Cathan's father embraced nature, as was his due course, for the blood of his mighty ancestors still held to proud traditions. But he taught Cathan to read and write in Latin and Greek. At night, they would sit under the sky and he would tell her stories of the stars. When she was not helping around the farm, Cathan had her nose in a book of some sort, her favorite being about other world cultures. She yearned to travel.

Civil unrest was growing in the immediate area. Fighting and death, loss of land and raping of women grew more common place. When Cathan was 14, her parents decided that Cathan and her mother would travel to Italy, to her mother's relatives, hoping their temporary voyage would help them escape the bloodshed in Ireland.

The night before the voyage, Cathan and her mother boarded in the port town. Strolling on the docks, looking again at the stars and moon, the two women did not look of wealth, but had great beauty. A group of men approached them, and when Cathan's mother resisted, they became insistent that these two women would be claimed. Both struggled, and as the men held down Cathan, tearing her dress, enjoying her begging cries, her mother grabbed the knife of one of the distracted captors and stabbed the one raping her daughter. Immediately the men turned their attention to her mother, beating her, subduing her, raping her, cutting her flesh with the same knife. Cathan managed to get loose during the ordeal. "Let 'er go." one of them said "We've got all the woman we need right 'ere."

Cathan ran as fast and as far away as she could, hiding away until the sun's rays began to peek over the horizon. Cautiously, she made her way back to the docks where the rape had taken place, only to find her mother's lifeless body had been dragged under the dock. A piece of washed up sail waved in the breeze. Cathan knew what she must do, wrapping her mother in the sail, she also filled it with rocks and heavy things to send her mother to a watery eternal cocoon. No one should have to know she died like this. Tearing a piece of the sail and putting it in her pocket, Cathan rolled her mother off the pier, just as the sun brought full light to the waters.

Hearing the town begin to bustle, Cathan grew more afraid at her vulnerability as a woman. Never had she wished more in her young life that she had been born a male. And the idea came to her. . .who had to know? Setting about to scrounge, steal and trick her way into a disguise, Cathan soon found herself more attracted to the idea of travel. She joined the crew of a private runner who had a small fleet, under the guise of a male.

For three years she worked hard, learning all she could of life at sea, but it was becoming more difficult to bound her breasts, not to mention her hips and waist were not in proportion to most men. One night while on land, she watched a group of pirates walk to a tavern. Following them with curiosity, she listened from a distance at their stories and adventures. This sounded much more fun than the cargo sailing she had been doing.

Finally getting the courage to approach the ship the next morning, she asked permission to board. Upon talking to the older captain, she noticed he looked at her strangely. "I'd have ye aboard, but 'chur a bit curvier than me other men." He winked and gave a knowing smile. "My scurvy bastards--" he paused to spit and change what he was saying "This is not the ship ye seek. But I hear of a crew who sails both women and men."

From his direction, Cathan made her way in finding the Nightmare's crew, where she was taken aboard to assist in weapon's maintenance and navigation.

Morgan

Name: Morgan
Age:23/24 can't say for sure
hieght: 6 foot even

Morgan could blend in with the world around her. At most times people thought she was a male. She always dressed in black. Black hat, black shirt, black corrset, black vest, black pants, black boots. She carred atleast three visable weapons and five hidden weapons at all times. Her favorite was her sword, The Gate of Hell. A double edged jagged sword. Morgan had pulled it out of the back of her father and swore to kill Mad Dogg with it when she finally caught up with him. (OCC:If you've seen Cutthroat Island you know the sword I'm talking about) All Morgan owned could fit in one bag or on her person. Morgan never spoke about herself or her past as such things could be used against her. Morgan also never engaged in long term relationships. What was the point, odds are you'd have to kill your lover anyway. Morgan also lived by the rule of live and let live. Sex was sex, be it with a man or a woman.

We seem to have a few girls on board who dressed up as men to get by. I really hope they let their hair ... and other things ... down, once they are aboard the Nightmare, LOL:D

Scorpe that is a great image for your girl. A fiery Irish girl, just my type, its the accent I think;)

So... did anything come of this? Will the Nightmare set sail?

Crynsanthum hasn't been online for over a week, so I don't know. I suppose we could go on, without her.

"Arrrr!!! I be ready to sail the seven seas. I seek gold! And rum! And mighty adventure! But mostly rum, for my supply has run out. And wenches! Beautiful and lovely wenches. Bucketsful of wenches. We shall find lands and cities to rape! Pillage! But mostly rape. And pillage. And rum. What say ye men and boys with unusually long hair? Are ye with me? Where's the d*mn rum? All set sails to foreign land, where we shall meet new people. And rape them."

: Apologies : :D

Scribe. ^H^H^H^H^Hack.

room for another guy on the boat... *slaps self* i mean ship

Did this ship sink? Or is she still afloat. *Awaits the beating that naturally follows the bad pun.*

Thanks for bringing my attention to this... if this thread is still going the list of RPers in this is FANTASTIC and I'd love to lend to it my touch :) Also, thanks to all the instruction my Dad's given me over the years on such things (he's always been a pirate fan) I've a fair knowledge, and I could ask him for any details. :D

If not, those left whom are interested, could start a new thread or somewhat. How does that sound?
