Blackie... the dreamer
"Aye Lad, Sit and satisfy your hunger and thirst but steer around the mamboo if ya can" I replied and swung my arm towards the feast waiting on the table for him. "Ya can fill your belly while I talk, then give me your thoughts"
The young lad was different than most free males on the Isle, I knew it and had kept my lips sealed, biding my time until the day.
"You've avoided signing onto one of my ships since you came here lad, and chosen work that keeps your feet on the land, a detail I haven't missed"
He had filled a plate and carried it to the table and at my words placed a large hunk of beef back on the platter, ready to defend himself.
"Nay, Listen" I corrected and held my hand aloft smiling to show he had nothing to worry about. "Tis not insult I wish to place on your shoulders only fact and what I intend to do about it"
Tommy settled back and poured a ration of rum into his mug, enough to quench his thirst but not cloud his mind and I nodded.
"Have ya noticed the mug or the platter you are filling your belly off of?" I queried, then grinned as he looked closely at the dull sheen of mug and lifted it's weight. "Aye Lad, Solid Gold"
As was every platter, mug or utensil on the table, it's value lost to most who ate off of it thus reducing it to little value other than mere kitchen ware...
"I have roamed the high seas, killed men with me cutlass, with me flintlock and cannon...and when that fails me bare hands for what you eat off of"
Much to his credit Tommy didn't flinch, only look up from the rapidly dwindling pile of food and look at me, then drank from the goblet.
"Each battle was of great peril, we lost mates, ships...all to bring this wealth to our island, then discard it"
Hands behind my back I looked at the young man watching to see if the words of a pirate were sinking into his sharp mind.
