Okay -- who's got what pierced? Do you like it? Would you do it again?

(Data gathering mode here. Considering a new one for me.)

I have the fairly common cartilage piercing in my left ear. It took forever to heal - I think I slept with my hand cupping that ear for six months or so. I like it, but it was a long time before it didn't bother me at least a little bit.

I also have my belly button pierced. Compared to the cartilage piercing, it was a piece of cake! Healed cleanly in maybe 4 or 5 weeks, and never got infected. I was really careful to keep it washed maybe 6-8 times a day with Dial anti-bacterial soap, and did my best not to play with it (and it's really hard not to do that, cause if feels kind of weird).

I kept a barbell in the whole time I was pregnant with my last baby, and even wore it through delivery. No problems whatsoever. I have quite a few friends who've had problems with theirs getting infected, but I think it's a matter of keeping your hands away from it, and washing, washing, washing.

The only thing I don't like about mine, and it's very minor, is I have to be careful where the waist of my pants hit me. It HAS to be below my belly button - I promise, you do not want that ring or barbell catching on the zipper, or in a button hole. Painful, very painful.

Same with tattoos.
I soooooo want a tattoo - a celtic knot design around my upper arm, and another smaller around my wrist (my eldest son was horrified - he has loads, but assures me, that there, with very little flesh and a lot of bone - IT WILL HURT!), but again. Needles. In me. My body. God no. Not unless I'm completely unconscious.

piercings. the rather mundane left ear lobe. A friend did it with a needle in high school. 'course, in 1982 any guy with a pierced ear was much more unusual than multiple peircings on a guy are today. I almost got expelled from catholic high school for wearing an earring at school.

Tattoos. a lightning bolt on my right bicep and a rose and scroll on the left.

I pierced my nose and my left eyebrow by hand when I was 15. The one in the nose got infected and made me look like a certain reindeer for three weeks. That was kindof embarassing, but the infection settled, and with a bull ring there and a steel spike above my eye I was the coolest kid around.

I have removed both ages ago, and there is virtually no trace of them now. Nevah again.

Problems? Regrets? Favorites?

I heal too quickly! LOL. I knocked my nose stud out once and it had healed over in three days. Have to have it done again. Had a problem with a small infection in my cartilage but that was due to the fact I kept tucking my hair behind my ears.

My tongue peircing is my favourite, as well as my lip, because I play with them all the time. My only regret is that my tongue HURT LIKE A BITCH! I lived on Ibruprofen soup and water for a week til I had the bar changed.

Okay -- this may sound like a stupid question, but I've no experience here.

Do you HAVE to initially use a barbell for either (a) an eyebrow or (b) a nipple?

I really don't want anything that clunky -- even temporarily.

AFAIK no, but a barbell allows more for the swelling I think
