Body Modifications Q&A Thread

With three newly pierced chickies (that I know of) over on the Gen Boards, alot of questions have come up about the different types and the procedures.

I know there are quite a few of us on here who're experienced with getting pierced (Cymbidia and BlondGirl come to mind) Who seem to always be answering in the same threads. And now that I have a new piercing I keep coming up with crap I want to ask too.

And there are TONS of people around here who are tattooed out the wazoo :D

So borrow the idea from Cym, I'm making a Q&A thread on Body Modification. Ask away or share your Body Mod tales.

Also I wanted to share this link for BME which I have been staring at for the past few weeks once I decided to get a hood piercing. It is definitely a must see for anyone contemplating any kind of body mod.

Hey!!!

I didn't know you had a hood piercing.

Okay, give me the 411. I'm thinking about getting one and would like as much info as you're willing to share - good and bad.

I've been going back and forth for the past 6 months or so but haven't been swayed one way or another. Like - just how bad did it hurt? How did you take care of showering, etc., while it healed?

Oh, and yes, I will check out the website. LOL.

Oh I forgot to mention. Showering doesnt bother it at all. It's easier to rinse off the soap after cleaning in a shower too.

My hood piercing was "fully" healed within a couple of weeks.

I have been very happy with it.

Of course, I have yet to go through labor or pregnancy with a genital ring (you know--when everything swells upppppppppp)

As far as sex goes, the ring gives my lover a "bullseye" to concentrate on during each instroke. It also looks sexy as hell.

One thing that I decline to participate in during my SM play is any pussy flogging--I did remove my labial ring for some very rough play once (before I had the hood ring) and it was hell getting the ring back in with my labia all swollen and puffy.

Hell of a good idea for a thread!

So, i've had multiple labial and nipple/areola piercings and a hood piercing. All of them have been done by my Master, Creidhne/MS. I've never had an infection. All of them that i left in (many were for play purposes only - we like that kinda thing for play, MS and me) healed quickly and without complications of any kind.

The hood pierce healed, i swear to you, in about a week. The tissue there is fine and almost mucous menbrane in nature (like the inside of your mouth), so it heals more quickly than any other kind of epidermis.

The tissue is so fine and thin, as a matter of fact, that the piercing needle REALLY does not hurt going into and through you there. (Unless, of course, one is pierced very slowly, with great deliberation, in order to call forth an erotic response, as MS does to me sometimes.)

Aftercare is simple:
1. Wash your hands and then your new piercing in the shower with a good antibacterial soap (like Dial). I use a pump just cuz it's easier and i KNOW i'll be able to get soap on the pierce.
2. After you've washed the piercing, wiggle the ring around. Slide it through and back, several times.
3. Rinse it carefully.
4. Vital ---> Keep your dirty hands OFF that new piercing until it's completely healed. Keep your friend's dirty hands off it, too. (Did you know that your hands are, biologically speaking, the dirtiest place on your body? Dirtier than your butt, yes, and your mouth, too. Keep those nasty things away from your piercing.)

That's all.
Easy.
Screw the complicated aftercare instructions.
Screw the special products they want you to buy to clean it with.

May i just add this personal note: MS is the best piercer in the known universe. He's done lots and lots of piercings - on himself, on me, on other women and men. If you're in the LA area, well, he's down there, too. We have tats, too, both of us, btw - and we'll have another one each, this fall.

Finally, MS has been known to do a little pussy flogging on occasion, hood ring in place.
I like the intensity.
I like the sensation.
I like the heat and wildness and sting and the hot spreading wild arousal.
I'm a pervert.

cym's a pervert? Who woulda thunk it?

Cym, that's what my piercer told me to use. White Dial soap and also to bathe in sea or epsom salt baths a few times a week if I felt so inclined.

He also gave me a list of things *Other* piercers suggest as well in case I felt uncomfortable with what he recommended.

This is third day into the piercing and it's not crusting or seeping or doing anything at all he told me is normal. I'm thrilled especially after the 5+ months it took my navel piercing to heal.

One question.I have a small purplish bruise off to the side of the top hole. It isn't tender at all. Is that okay? The wound itself is painless and is only slightly tender deep inside the piercing when I rotated it this morning.

Sounds like it's healing really well to me, darlin'.

If you're concerned about the bruise, go back and ask your piercer or go ask your doc. Maybe it's from the pinch to your hood he did when he was inserting the needle? We're pretty fragile there, as you know, which is the reason we feel so much and the reason, too, a piercing there is so totally easy to do, like a sigh in the wind... like a smudge of sensation... like a momentary flashing of heat... like the dream of a hot kiss.

The sea/epsom salts thing sounds good. A dilute salt bath like that can only hasten the healing if there's any sign at all of infection. (An aside: I lived at the beach, literally, while growing up. Never ever had any little cuts or skinned knees stay long cuz i was in the salt water all the time.)

You're going to be totally amazed at how quickly this piercing heals.
Then you'll be ready to play... and oh gods! .. a whole new world of sensation will open up to you.

That was a very informative story, Angel. Thanks.

I do still have a question, though. I'm allergic to everything I've used to clean my vagina except for Ivory soap. Is this too perfumy to use for cleaning? It doesn't seem to be but you never know. I think I'm beginning to lean towards the 'I want one' side rather than the 'Hell No' side.

I have a tattoo question that I don't know if you'll be able to answer for me. I have keloid scars that I'd like to cover. Is this something that's feasible with a tatoo? Especially being dark skinned? Or will it just create more problems? Maybe I need someone who's been in this situation before to answer it for me.

cym, any chances you and Creidhne will be in Las Vegas anytime soon - lol.

Blackbich,

Go talk to a few artist in your area , I kinda grew up in a tattoo shop . I know for sure that it can be done and they do some really great cover ups.....This is the stuff that is fun for those guys (and Girls) a challenge. I will not make things worse but you do have to find someone that knows what there doing.
I have been getting inked for years and there are alot of kids out there doing Tat's that don't know everything you need to know.
Someone that knows whats up can give you a nice cover up.......

Look into it you will get hooked and be planning your 2nd one in no time at all.;)

I don't think Ivory would be too perfumy for cleaning. Isn't it supposed to be the *Pure* soap? I think though, that you need to have some kind of antibacterial soap (Well that's what I was told to use on mine) So I don't want to give you a definite answer on that.

But, before you even go to get the piercing check out a few places, chat with whoever would be doing the piercing at each place and find out who you would feel most comfortable poking at your womanly parts. Once you find that person discuss EVERYTHING you're concerned with, ask all the questions you want to ask. Make sure the person isn't just an experienced piercer but one who has experience with this particular piercing. They should be well informed on the soap issue too. So ask :)

Go over everything including the gauge and jewelry. Where in the store piercing is done. Privacy questions, the exact procedure, cleaning and after care etc. THEN make the decision if you want to do it. Then make an appointment.

Any experienced, excellent, reputable piercer should be able to answer any and all of your questions.

Keloid issues

BB--I also grew up around inkers and those covered in tats, and this is a tough call. Some of the coverage possibilities will depend on how high the tissue is raised, whether there is significant skin color change compared to the surrounding area and how sensitive you are to deep color inks. My mom's got a tat covering a keloid, but she's also got one that just made a scar worse because she was particularly sensitive to red ink and has fickle skin.

The best advice is to do what was suggested above, and talk it over with some experienced, reputable inkers. Ask to see photos of other coverage work. Make sure that you see plenty of pics showing detail work, closeups, and work on comparable skin tones. I went with my sista sister (actually my God-sister, but sista's her official name. She told me so) when she had work done, and her inker had a portfolio full of work of all sizes, multiple styles, and on all shades of skin. This can be very important, especially because some of the brighter and/or deeper colored dyes (especially red-based colors) can be more toxic, and darker skin tones often require higher concentrations of color in order to show up as beautifully as you want.

Also, if you're particularly prone to skin inflammations or "conditions"--things like moles, skin tags, shingles, etc. you need to talk this over with both your doc and your inker. Any skin work can inflame previous skin conditions, causing you to rash, or encouraging skin tags.

One final caveat, as the daughter of a diabetic: If you're diabetic or have another serious and/or unstable health condition, you can still get work done. But, you need to consult with your doc. Especially for diabetics...the adrenaline of being inked can encourage glucose crash, and the longer you're under the needle, the more risk it entails. Find out how long the design you like will take to ink, and split it into multiple sessions if it's more than your body can take at once. Also, for those with diabetes and other health issues, healing often takes much longer than expected. Be sure that you have all the info first.

That said, good luck to you. I'm sure you can find someone to do great cover work for you. Just take your time looking.

Is anyone but me *seriously* impressed with RisiaSkye at this point?

Man.
I know who to go to with tats questions now.

Question to those with pierced hoods - what did you use to clean yours?

While mine is healing up nicely, I'd like to get away from the White Dial soap I was told to use. My nether regions are becoming irritated by it.

Darlin'?
I never used white Ivory. I've always used unscented Dial in the pump canister (liquid form). Perhaps the liquid form of a soap is a bit gentler?

I don't know about that but i *do* know that i have very sensitive skin and have never had any problem with the pump/liquid form of Dial. You might have to experiment a little.

Sure you're getting all the soap washed out? It's kinda hard to get into those folds and crevices sometimes... especially if it's a bit tender.

I think I'll try the normal Dial in a pump.

Yeah, I'm sure I'm getting it all out. The tenderness is gone, and I'm comfortable moving skin and clits around to rinse well :D

I think my skin is just too used to being babied down there. I use summers eve fem wash for sensitive skin normally - I guess I'm not used to using regular soap down there.

Goody

Iwah is joining the world of body modifications sometime this week with his first ever piercing - the Labret (Which I happen to find incredibly sexy on menfolk)

I'm sure he'll have (Or already has) Questions, comments. Plus I will be forcing him to add his story here damnit. :)

Hopefully he'll catch the needle addiction and mod some more :D

Okay, help me because I'm retarded. What is a Labret??

You are not retarded.
You just don't know.
Only retarded people don't ask questions when they don't know something.

Question to those with pierced hoods - what did you use to clean yours?

I used the generic dollar store brand of liquid soap. If you are irritated, try rubbing up a lather on your hands first--then use the bubblies to wash your nether region.

Be sure not to play with it too much--hard to do, I know--but that increases the irritation too.
