Piercing vs Tattoo

Okay, another question.....

How should I choose who to get the piercing/tat from?
I don't really know any tat artists but I have heard good things about this one place in town.

definitely get recommendations (most strangers won't even mind a compliment on a tat), and then check out the shop yourself for cleanliness, general atmosphere, etc. Shops will usually have a book of photographs of the work they've done that you can see. MAKE SURE - do-overs just don't happen.

If you have heard good things about a certain shop then go and check them out. Tell them you're thinking about getting a tat. or a piercing and usually they'll let you look around and talk to people. (If they don't then they're trying to hide something.)

Most places have the books Cloudy mentioned. Look them over.

The place I went to was recommended by more than a couple people. When I went in they were more than happy to let me look around and even introduced me to several of their artists. One of them caught my eye. he's an older guy who happens to have his own album of his tats. (He's only been doing them for 30 years.)

Funniest part was when he gave me my tat. Naturally I had to remove my shirt. As I sat there watching him get things ready I saw him looking me over as well. At first I wondered until he asked me what unit I had been with. (That's when I saw the unit crest Tattooed on his shoulder.) After I had explained how I had earned my scars he had smiled and made a three word comment. "Brothers in Blood."

He did a lot of extra work on my tat after that. He didn't even get upset when I fell asleep, although his method of waking me up left a bit to be desired. (A loud piercing whistle into my ear which had me out of the chair and ready to dance in less than a heartbeat.)

When I went in with my wife to have her Navel pierced he remembered me and asked to look at my Tat. because of the way my skin heals parts of it were slightly faded and he retouched them free of charge.

One hint, and this is from my wife. If you chose to have your navel pierced make sure they do it deeply enough. If you can have them use a gold stud instead of silver. In my wifes case they didn't pierce deeply enough and it grew out. (Her body also rejected the Silver for some reason. I have heard of this before though.) Now she is waiting for her navel to heal completely again before having it redone. (When she told the shop what had happened they sent us a letter with the promise of re-piercing her navel for free when it was healed.) She plans on having it done at the same time she gets her nipples pierced.

It helps to talk to the artist beforehand....get to know him/her a little bit. It'll make that time in the chair pass much easier. Also, some will even let you choose the music that's playing while they work - ask, it never hurts.

That's great that you found someone you can trust.
I live in a small town and from what I know there aren't many places here so my choices are limited. I'll start by getting visiting the one's people refer me to and hopefully find someone I want to do it with.

I hadn't really thought about reactios to the metal...I'll check into that as well. As far as I know I'm not allergic to silver.

Good idea! That way I won't be a ball of nerves when I go in. Music.....ya think they would be up for celtic music? I'll have to ask cause they always relax me.

I've got a belly ring and when I got it pierced it didn't really hurt. I'm pretty much a wimp when it comes to pain just ask my doctors But the piercing wasn't bad at all. I'm not so sure about a nose piercing since they do have to go through cartiledge(sp?).

I think a tiny stud would be sexy though
