Pictures, Avatars, help!

How do I make a picture to put on the left hand part of the sreen? Also, how do I post my pictures? I don't see them anywhere except my profile page and aol home page. How do I post them here? I state the file name and extension but nothing shows up. Thanks. sorry for my being stupid at this. Me.

Avatars show up when you have 100 posts.

Pictures can be posted anywhere. Usually though, you start a thread on the AM Pics thread and when you upload it, it shows as a clickable link inside the post like this:
