i am new here and wanted to post some pics of me but they are too large to post as attachments. can i get some help on how to reduce the size? i saw some threads in the stickied sections but they were not too clear.

Almost any image editing program will allow you to reduce the dimensions and filesize to meet the attachment limits, yuou just have to figure out how your preferred program does the job -- with irfanview, it's about athree second task to resize one image and maybe ten to fifteen seconds to resize an entire folder of images.

i have dloaded it now but still not really getting the look i want. when i use the resizing tool i change the pixel size and i totally have to sacrifice size and quality to upload pics. i notice that my pictures are definitely smaller and not as sharp as others posted. is there another way to do this?

One of Irfanviews strong points is the six different resampling algorithms -- If you're not getting a sharp, clear resizing, then try another algorithm. You definitely want to resample, and not pixel resize.

FWIW, I find that the "Lancos Filter" (labeled "slowest") give the best results for most images.

When resizing for attachments, I change the larger pixel dimension to 600 (with resample/lancos filter checked) so that all of my attachments are within the 800x600 pixel limits.

Save the image As JPeG (with a new/modified name so you don't overwrite the original) at about 70% compression -- that will meet the filesize limitation with about 99% of images without a lot of noticeable decomression error.

See the two attachments for settings I used to save the two screen captures aafter cropping. (they were NOT resized, just cropped from the 800x600 screen resolution I use.)

See the attachment above, Clipboard02. On the right hand side of the image, is the JPeG/GIF options menu. Any time you select "Save As" from the file menu and select JPeG as the file type, you'll get that dialog displayed.

I did check your posts to find your one attempt at an attachment and noted it was a BMP file. BitMaP files are uncompressed images, and that is the reason you have to reduce the pixel dimensions so drastically to meet the 100KB filesize limit.

You need to convert your images to JPeG format to reduce the filesize by using the "Save As" function or by using the "batch processing" option.
