Pickled Beets

dying pickled eggs purple.
I have a recipe for rendering hard-boiled eggs in spiderweb patterns with cloves or something. Boil the eggs till they crack. Add the colorant. Peel, behold, and cringe.

Pickled eggs are an abomination. Necessary at times, though. Especially in Tucson. Add the Hatch chiles and over-the-border tamales and you've got it.

If you pickle a beet you should be beaten.

Roast them in salt an butter like a human being.

I read it as Bickled Peets and I wondered about that beverage flavor.

I hate them, but I admire those who can eat them, somewhat in the way I admire how some animals can live on grass, or people having nettle-eating contests.

I ate a beet once in my whole life. I was at a buffet and thought it was cranberry sauce.

I will never forgive the universe for the injustice done to me that day.
