Shoes would work too. Obviously not everyone responds the same, but it gets by far more positive reactions than negative. Keep in mind that the ellipses in my comment are meant to signify that she has responded so the last part is only said if she responds positively. I've learned a lot about where women got a bracelet, or ear rings etc. It is meant as a compliment to her tastes in jewelry, shoes, etc., and women are often more flattered by that than the usual, "I should have worn sunglasses your beauty is so bright" lines.

Yes garniture is an antiquated word rarely used anymore in that context. I would never say, "That's interesting garniture you have there..."
