I raise watermelons. I've tried every way there is to judge the ripeness of a melon, and there's only one way that's right almost all the time: BY THE COLOR OF THE MELON BOTTOM.
THE DEEPER THE SHADE OF YELLOW, THE MORE LIKELY IT IS THAT THE MELONS RIPE. MUSTARD YELLOW (Frenchs Brand) IS THE OPTIMAL COLOR. STREAKS OF BROWN IN THE YELLOW MEANS ITS AT ITS PEAK AND WILL SOON ROT.
THUMPING AND WEIGHT WILL LEAD YOU ASTRAY. LOOK FOR THE BRIGHT YELLOW.
