Photos

It's interesting that the story side of literotica has different rules than the forums. The General Board, for one, is chock full of explicit imagery including gifs.

To clarify the rule that EB linked to, it does NOT apply to non-photographic artwork, like drawings in pencil or pen, or paintings. What this means is that for non-photographic illustrations, you CAN post sexually explicit material. For photographic work, you can only post non-sexually explicit nudes.

A gray area is artwork that is photoshopped from photographs. The best advice there probably is to proceed at your own risk, and don't be surprised if the Site owner thinks it's too photographic to be accepted.

If you need more visual guidance, check out the Visual Artists' Corner thread, which contains plenty of examples of highly explicit non-photographic illustrations that Literotica artists have created.

The forum side supposedly doesn't permit posting of copyrighted images, including photos, either (Rule 3). Folks just do it and get away with it. I'm pretty sure that Laurel's avatar is a stolen copyrighted image too.

Supposedly by Forum Rule #2, photos showing this are prohibited in the forum as well:

"(A) sexual intercourse, including genital-genital, oral-genital, anal-genital, or oral-anal, whether between persons of the same or opposite sex;
"(B) bestiality;
(C) masturbation;
"(D) sadistic or masochistic abuse; or
"(E) lascivious exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of any person."

Supposedly.

As far as I can tell, the de facto policy as enforced here is:

- No images of bestiality or under-age anywhere (though occasionally mods don't seem to count octopuses as bestiality?)
- Explicit non-photographic depictions (drawing etc.) permitted both on story side (both in Illustrated and similar categories) and on forum side.
- Explicit photos/video of adult humans permitted on forum side, only as hotlinks or avatars but not as post attachments. (I presume the difference is because attachments require the site to keep a copy of explicit material, which creates legal liabilities that hotlinking might not - OTOH, the site also needs to keep a copy of avatars, so it's still not entirely consistent.)
- Photo/video material on the story side can't be explicit - softcore only.

As noted by Keith, this is not consistent with what the published rules say the policy is.

The difference is that the image on the BB side isn't stored on the lit server whereas the image in a story is.
