Photography thread...

I wish it had been sunny for brighter coloring, instead of misty and cloudy...

I think they are great...some of my best shots are in overcast or misty weather...sort of breaks the monotony of blue skies and sunshine so many favour.

Yay, got the new lens but unfortunately don't feel great and the weather is cold so we postponed taking the pics I wanted after getting the lens. Still I had to try it out when we came home so I picked on the wildlife in the backyard and though I didn't use the tripod and was shivering, I am rapt in the result...can only imagine how good it will be with the tripod.

Lovely shot, wow.

Lovely shot, wow.

Thanks. LOL, did I mention I think I will have a love affair with this incredible lens? F said the smile on my dial and all my chatter on the way home about what it is supposed to do made it all worthwhile and worth forgetting about the 560 price tag (but he gets 100 back from Canon as well). I asked then if it was a good time to show him the economically, equally good macro I have my eyes on which is only 350?:D Unfortunately he said no way I can have that one for now.:(

Ohh such a range of talent, wonderful images thank you Cat, BiKitty and Exogenous. That little stoic fluffy little bird really reminds me of Christmas as well for some strange reason.

Superb :rose:

Thanks...I am determined to get out tomorrow with the tripod and get some really good shots...kicking myself I didn't push myself harder to do it today.

Please continue to share your work! I bought my camera about a year ago with two lenses. I'm still learning to use it (managing a few good shots amongst lots of disappointing ones!). It's funny how I'll see a great shot with my eyes, then try to capture it on film, and it doesn't quite come out the way I expected. It's been a lot of fun, though. I was thinking of taking some photography classes in the near future to learn better techniques.

Thank you, too! Hey, did you ever find a site that would let you post your videos? They were lovely.

I love horses as well, wonderful animals.

This is me and Kelso. (I'm on the right)

Great picture! Thank you for posting it. Kelso is almost as handsome as you!

Wow! Kelso was an extraordinary race horse! He's the only racing Thoroughbred to win Horse of the Year in North America five years in a row. Quite an a accompishment!

Speaking of action shots

Here’s one that came out fairly nice.

El Corredor’s coronet band. I love unusual markings on horses.

The White Fox is only the 37th horse to be accepted by the American Jockey Club to be a true white (non-albino) Thoroughbred. Many greys may appear white, but their skin is grey. True white horses have pink skin with brown or blue eyes (they are not albinos, which would have pink eyes and carry the lethal white gene = inability to produce digestive enzymes and other complications, and do not survive after birth). LOL, the subject of genetics is fascinating to me, can you tell?

Fall semster is finally over! I was taking a Black & White Photography class. In the class, we took pictures with 35mm SLR cameras, developed the film, and printed pictures by using the darkroom. In the Spring, there is going to be a "student art show" and I thought about entering a picture or two. Any suggestions on which ones or should I just keep my work at home? LOL. (BTW, I made a B+ in the class--my teacher told us that she was the type of teacher who did not give A's--so, yay me!)

Oh I loved it when I learned to develop film, except I had an eerie experience in the developing lab which spooked the whole school. I had witnesses...there were 3 of us in the lab developing our work and the rest of the building was empty. The room went suddenly cold and we all felt a prickly cold feeling. Everyone just went on working and it wasn't until our pics came out we saw some strange things. One guy's pic had the image of just the toe end of a person's foot in a jogger coming across one bottom corner of the pic...there was no foot, jogger or anything in the negative or any subsequent developings of the photo. But mine set everyone's nerves on end and my teacher was so spooked he wouldn't be alone in the building for months after. I had taken a pic of a statue at a popular beach not far from my home and was developing it for a piece of work involving hand colouring. It had been this photo I was developing when the room went its iciest. Well it came out great except the statue had this gargoyle like face completely covering it, looking angry and ready to attack. Believe me, I had no photos of gargoyles to create the effect and when it came out of the bath everyone ran to check I hadn't used some trick as my work was all still there where I had left it. It was freaky, became a school legend and I had the photo for a few months before it disappeared. I figured one of my children had sneaked it out of the book it was in and taken it to school where it was stolen(page and all gone without a trace it was ever there), but to this day they swear they didn't take it.

Anyway, onto which ones to submit. I like the extra 2 one. I also like the POV card pic; DOF 2&3 (1 didn't show), and also Spaces and Places 1. Hope you let us know how it goes.

I have been playing around with digital now since not long after F & I married, but have been thinking of late of also getting back into my 35mm cameras, as well as the twin lens reflex camera I have if I can find a place to get the TLR pics developed here. I used to take them to a professional photography lab in Oz, but have no idea about here.

The art building we used had just got through being constructed. We were a month late getting into it this semster. People was all the time hearing voices in our building. There would be only two people in the lab, 1 in the wet lab and 1 in the darkroom. The one in the wet lab would hear "someone" say something loudly and would go into the darkroom to see what that person wanted but they didn't say anything. You could always hear glass breaking but could never find the glass. It is weird what you can hear in a building sometimes.

this first shot just blew me away. Wow, I would love to get this sort of colour response and clarity of my shots.

What sort of camera and lens do you use, Cat?

These shots are with a Canon EOS 400D (Canon Rebel in the US), with the Canon 70-200mm f/4L USM telephoto zoom lens (not the IS version...not that rich, and think it unnecessary). I have had the EOS since June, but haven't been up to experimenting with it a lot, always finding it easier and quicker to grab the G6 I was used to. I told myself I had to forget that and get cracking and these are the first real full on session I have used it for. Did I say how much I love both camera and lens?:D

I'm still cropping (I'm onto the ducks now), but here are a couple of others...

These shots make me want to buy a Canon rebel.

I wish I could figure out how to get better colour out of my camera. Blah. Maybe cranking up the mega-pixels would help. They're set on minimum now.

Yes that's always a good start, the finer the resolution, the better quality pics. And if your camera have a digital zoom, don't use it, it's not worth it at all.

Mine has optical zoom. It's not a bad camera, especially considering it is one that my company bought for me. I'll try higher res though.

Is it tough to maintain that gorgeous colour when resizing?
